PoèmesCHRISTOPHER MIDDLETON. Born 1926, in England, now living in Texas where he teaches at the University of Texas in Austin. Author of Torse 3 (1962), Nonsequences (1965), Our Flowers and Nice Bones (1969), Briefcase History (1972). Has also translated widely from German. On The Fossil Fish he writes : « I wrote these poems during the summer of 1969, perched in a bare attic in the village of Le Barroux (Vaucluse). The poems pinpoint certain local features, mainly pastoral, though with some social allusions (« squads in helmets, » c long clean rifles »). The main thing was to write some micro-sensory texts as concentrated as, say, Webern's « Five Pieces for Orchestra » or sculptures by Gia-cometti....
