ABSTRACTAlthough special education under its diverse forms is consensually recognized as the priviliged area of pervasive developmental delay, there is little studies on re-education intervention for autistic persons of normal intelligence. This article presents a psychoeducative intervention with a three year old autistic boy in a pédopsychiatrie day care centre. The interest of this observation is double. On the one hand, this child, aside from autism, is carrier of an exceptional ailment: visual agnosia. On the other hand, his "restrictive autistic interest", namely perceptive attraction and his questioning of a particular class of objects or a particular parameter of these objects were used as lever to bring him to improve his capacities of communication and social interactions.

Disabled students are registering in increasing numbers at the Université de Montréal. Given that use of the library lies at the heart of a university education, adapted library services are offered to all disabled students. These services are developped according to a concept that integrates reading and writing — two intertwined activities performed by all university students. A room in the Bibliothèque des lettres et des sciences humaines (Arts and Social Sciences Library) was equipped with the latest technology. The success of adapted library services is largely due to the involvement of the personnel and a personalized approach.

Introduction: In late adolescence, young people with disabilities live a transition between end of school and adaptation to adulthood. Some activities appear to promote the development of skills that foster the transition to adulthood. Objective: To document the psychosocial effects and the context of activities aiming to support young adults with disabilities. Methods: A literature review was conducted in four databases: PubMed, ERIC, CINAHL and Social Work. Results: A total of 35 articles were selected. Five types of activities were discussed: physical activity, work, recreation, school and music therapy. The activities have an impact on three indicators of general quality of life, self-perception and interpersonal relationships. Conclusion: The activities generally have positive psychosocial effects; however it is important to consider the context of their implementation in order to establish optimal conditions for critical skills development to prepare young people in transition to adult life.

This paper presents an original multidisciplinary approach to supporting parents of persons with sensory and motor disabilities. This approach stems from an initiative put in place by a team of nurses, psychologists, midwives and specialized birthing instructors and aims to offer support to parents from conception to 7 years of age. Our work is based on almost ten years’ experience with children followed from birth, approximately 120-150 users yearly. We emphasize the discovery of children’s ability to cope with their parents’ disabilities (abilities that we call relational bilingualism) and on the mobilization of parents’ potential in seeking approaches well suited to their particular situation. However, this is not intended to illustrate simple technical facilitators but rather to facilitate the inclusion of these original mothering techniques into comprehensive care. We illustrate our discussion of case studies and finish with lessons learned for all families where one parent has a disability.

To meet human needs in a globalized world, the differences between individuals and the diversity of their needs must be taken into account. In this practical paper, we present the serious multiplayer game that we designed at INSHEA (the French national higher institute for training and research on special needs education) in order to make professionals more aware of concepts of inclusion and accessibility. Designed around the implementation of an inclusive society, E-LearningScape Access has certain advantages and limitations for providing learning in and through action.
