Recognizing that the intelligibility of the processes involved in the professionalization of the individual through and within the activity constitutes a major scientific and social issue, this article proposes to study how John Dewey’s theory of inquiry is likely to enrich the analytical frameworks used to study this phenomenon. The aim is to show to what extent this psycho-philosophical approach to experience, developed at the beginning of the 20th century, constitutes a heuristic approach to understanding the relationship between work and the training of the individual through and within the activity.

This article presents a method used in the context of a participative approach under the shape of a research-action led for two years in a city of 12 000 inhabitants in French-speaking Switzerland. Elements of the theoretical framework, the process and the methodology of organized intervention are clarified. We also present the implementation plan as well as the interactive activities developed to collect data in a participative diagnosis and we communicate some recommendations delivered to the politicians who sponsored this research. We conclude by a reflection on the conditions of a real citizen participation and on the way of setting up devices allowing it.

Few socio-ethnographical studies evoke the importance of football in the processes of socialization of the young people. This search aims to be resolutely inductive and bases itself on the ethnographical observation of the ground of the Jeunesse Sportive Lafarge Limoges (JSL), a football club of a district of Limoges (Limousin). The author underlines the importance of the competitive spirit and the good-companionship, but also the emergence of more educational institutional concerns which strike this environment. The analysis of the field observations led to sociologists of the school of Chicago such as Berger and Luckmann, Goffman and Becker. A more attentive observation of these quasi-daily meetings between players, educators and parents reveals more complex and mutual processes of apprenticeship and socialization between the young people and the club.

The question of the relations between generations in and out of the family’s sphere expanded these last years. This article is interested in the intergenerational relation in the urban public place. In this perspective, the author studied an educational process proposed to students in social work in their third year of undergraduate cursus. The key concepts used lean on the theoretical dimensions of generation/intergeneration and public place, as well as on the disciplinary aspects such as sociocultural community development. This analysis thus examined the passage which leads from the very abstract cursus engineering to practical applications. The actual apprenticeship of the students in this process was also taken into account. As result, we present the model of this praxis, the strengths and the weaknesses of this pedagogy which wants to bind theory and practice and the anchoring of this teaching in its wide institutional context.

This article reports an experience shared with pupils of a primary school in Senegal as part of a research-action on educational strategies adapted to large groups. For that purpose, we implemented the intervention/insertion project based pedagogy system, an intercultural social transformation system initiated by Annie Couëdel at University of Paris 8 - Vincennes in the 1970s. This system can be situated in the wake of social pedagogies and particularly that of Paulo Freire’s social awareness pedagogy. At the heart of the system lies the project whose authors-actors are the pupils. The activities take place in a spatiotemporal architecture that combines groups-project and large groups. Implemented during six months around the conception and the realization of projects by the pupils and their teachers, this project spurred real change in the attitudes of the pupils, of the teachers and on their environment.

Music has always been a powerful mean of leisure, but it represents also a tool for sensitization and raising awareness. Since its accession to independence in 1960, Ivory Coast has adopted a national anthem called ‘‘Abidjanaise’’, wich, from of its orchestration, is sung by seven voices. The text itself deals with citizen values essential to the development of this young nation. Therefore, music is a vehicle for promoting values useful for the construction of a country. In the Ivorian context, music has evolved with the history of the country. Over time, however, we realize that the majority of urban musical productions are devoid of ethics and civic values. This work attempts to shed light on the issue through a mixed approach that takes into account the main actors in the musical field. The study shows that the marginalization of civic values in the contemporary Ivorian musical field is mainly due to the quest for easy living, fear of political reprisals and the race for money.

The ageing of the population demands to renew the ways of thinking the settings of the circles of life to strengthen the well-being of the seniors. Several studies demonstrated that the leisure contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of the seniors. For that purpose, the municipal level has to play an important role in leisure opportunities intended for this group. This article presents the results of an inquiry led in 2015 in Montreal among 464 respondents of 50 years old and more. It shows the importance granted by the seniors to free practices of leisure and multifunctional outer spaces. At the same time, these results reveal physical and socioeconomic disparities marked in the pooled population. Finally, this study highlights the fact that the municipal action seems to be conceived as facilitator for the implementation of projects by and for the seniors more than as simple supplier of activities.

The first section discusses the conceptual background of the survey aiming to provide data on the various reproductive strategies adopted by the populations of Burkina Faso. The second section focuses on the objectives and design of the survey and describes the information collected at the different levels of analysis: individuals, households, communities, regions, and the country as a whole. For each level, methodological issues of data collection and analysis are discussed.

This article begins by examining the concept of "cultural homogeneity" and opens up the possibility of forming hypotheses about the meanings given to the term in our societies and the processes at play in contrasting homogeneity and heterogeneity. The article then suggests some reference points for a "grammar" of intercultural relations in a context marked by a complex dialectic between these two poles for cultural understanding. The last part of the article is a reflection on pedagogical action. The thesis advanced is that the task of the school does not appear to be reducible to preparing children for "intercultural" relations, but rather for "relations period". This means providing future generations with the symbolic means to manage relations with otherness in its various forms: cultural, sexual, cognitive, affective, and so on.

AbstractThe authors present and analyse the theoretical project of Dipesh Chakrabarty, an important figure of Postcolonial Studies, aiming at « provincializing » some European sociohistorical developments, as well as the critic of Eurocentrism made by John M. Hobson, a well-known advocate of Neo-Weberian Historical Sociology in International Relations. Following the presentation of these contributions to Postcolonial approaches and to the turn toward anti-Eurocentrism in Neo-Weberian analysis, the authors argue that these theories tend to build on a critic of a long-deserted kind of Marxism, which makes them disregard the articulation between the modernity of international relations and the emergence of a global capitalist order. The authors conclude by stating the importance of a return to classical social theory to sharpen the evaluation of the role of past and contemporary Eurocentric practices in international relations.
