This article explores the manner in which Le Parfum du jour est fraise by Pascale Petit illustrates the concept of performativity in the literary context, and how the performative character of the poem lends itself to a translational rereading of the work. The analysis will focus first on a discussion of the general conceptual contours of performativity. Next we examine how the “voice” in the poem – the speaker who commands, controls and manipulates all – erases the distinction between the reader and the narratee, and how the voice manages to control and shape the reader as a subject of a quasi-scientific experiment. Finally, the discussion will explore performativity in translatology and in the experience of the translation of this text into English.

Abstract" Info a Basket Carried on the Back " : Importance of Basketry in Gathering/Hunting/ Fishing Economies in Northwestern North AmericaThe role of basketry in traditional cultures and economies of the Northwest region is surveyed and examined, together with the history, diversity and applications of baskets, and the investments of time, energy and knowledge required to produce them. As major containers for food harvesting, transportation and storage, baskets have been an integral part of the seasonal food production Systems in the region. Basketmaking is traditionally women's work. It reflects a complex system of knowledge incorporating not only the techniques of the art, but the ecological and cultural aspects of harvesting and processing the materials. Changes in the production and functions of baskets over time are discussed. Basketmaking continues to the present, but basketmakers have noted impacts of industrial forestry and other recent human activities on the materials they use. Directions for further research in the ecological and économie aspects of basketmaking are suggested.Key words : Turner, ecology, Native Americans, hunters and gatherers, fishing people, handicrafts, basketry

AbstractSocioenvironmental changes in Canada's northern regions are likely to have wide-ranging implications for the health of its residents. Aboriginal communities are among the first to face the direct impacts of changes, as their lifestyles tend to be more closely tied to and reliant upon the natural environment. Based on field research, this paper documents observations of socio-environmental changes made by members of the Cree Trappers Association (CTA) of the Cree of Eeyou Istchee (the traditional homeland of the Cree located in the eastern James Bay area). It also analyses their impact on hunting behaviour and consumption levels associated with two traditional food species – the Canada Goose and the woodland caribou. CTA members are witnessing changes in animal behaviour and the migration patterns of species. These in turn are affecting the consumption of traditional food, causing dietary changes at the society level, and, ultimately, impacting on human health and overall well-being.

AbstractThrough the mechanism of pharmaceutical leakage from the medical sphere to drug markets, the ambivalent nature of molecules contributes to the multiple uses of medicines. This article examines diverted uses of Subutex® (high dose buprenorphine – HBD) – currently the most frequently used substitution treatment for opiate dependency in France – by injection drug users (IDUs) in Marseille. Following findings about the necessity of taking into account individual and contextual factors to understand drug trafficking and risky drug consumption, this study began with the working hypotheses that (1) diverted uses of HDB are integrated into pre-existing drug worlds; (2) geographic characteristics are implicated in the reconfiguration of these uses. Data collected through questionnaires on 62 UDI clients of automats for syringe exchange-recuperation in Marseille, a group little known to drug treatment programs, were explored in a series of multiple components analyses, resulting in two paradoxical effects. Diverted HDB appears to be integrated in a configuration of intensive drug use with risky practices characteristic of the very opiate (heroin) it is meant to replace. In a poor, de-industrialized area of Marseille, such uses are associated with the stabilisation of some IDUs, not through social reintegration in accordance with French health drug policy, but through marginal integration, by holding in abeyance a population of older users. Pharmaceutical leakage thus furnishes a heuristic tool for looking beyond the medical gaze and should be useful for better understanding medicines in general.

L'influence du profil identitaire des aspirants apprentis sur leurs choix d'ateliers d'apprentissage
More informationThe artisanal SME in sub-Saharan Africa run the “risk to see their performance worsening” if they do not renew their personnel made up mainly of not remunerated apprentices. However, very few research related to the determinants of the choice of workshops of training. This article thus proposes to broaden the knowledge of these determinants of choice starting from an analysis of the dimensions of the mark employer, determinants of the school choices and by introducing the influence of identity profile into the choice of the workshop. Based primarily on the analysis of 32 speeches of apprentices and on a step of quantification of the data relating to 92 apprentices, this work has three contributions. On the one hand, it enriches the literature by explaining specificities in the process of choice of the workshops among non-wage-earning apprentices. In addition, this work identifies several profiles of candidates' apprentices, which suggests behaviors of differentiated apprentices and calls into question preceding work. Lastly, this work establishes a relation between profile of apprentices and choice of workshops thus making it possible to apprehend more aspects of the phenomenon of choice than do it the former studies.

This research bears on the answers provided by 2278entrepreneurs in 14 countries about their motivation to establish a new enterprise. Preliminary statistical analysis revealed important differences in the way entrepreneurs answer motivation questions (38 of them) and, even more important, in the way certain nationalities gauge the relative importance of motivation factors. To correct these answering modes, the original data were recoded and reclassified according to the personal equation statistical method. Ascending hierarchical classification of the recoded data reveals that motivations are grouped according to three broad regional entities : the Anglo-Saxon Block, the Scandinavian Block, and the Mixed Block which comprises developing countries for the most part. Seven main motivation factors emerge from the rotated Varimax factor analysis of the recoded and reclassified data : need for social recognition, need for selfdevelopment, need for money, needfor independence and autonomy, communitarianism, need forescape, and opportunism. The distribution of these factors and of the the underlying variables suggests clearly that entrepreneurial motivations cut across national boundaries and transcend cultural systems of countries. The results indicate that the motivation to become an entrepreneur in a given country is primarily determined by metacultural factors that transcend the immediate socio-economic environment.

AbstractDo the approaches used in the study of public administration follow the changing course of events? This study identifies five major approaches used by Quebec authors: pluralist political science, law, management, economics and political sociology. Recent history shows that the popularity of an approach does reflect current events, but the relationship is not all one-way. No approach has so far succeeded in reaching a satisfactory synthesis of the others.

This paper aims to shed light on corporate compliance programs as well as their implementation from legal and management perspectives. The concept of compliance program refers to processes by which compliance decisions are made within an organization with the aim to set up control structures that guide individual action so that the various stakeholders can act in line with the organization's interests. The authors of this paper then refer to existing studies to present the means to achieve compliance programs' goals as well as obstacles that can hinder their effectiveness. Therefore, a literature review is first discussed in order to better present the key players involved in compliance business within companies. Finally, an analysis on how to implement compliance programs is conducted as well as a discussion on the main components that contribute to their success.
