This article looks at the relationship between work, training, and professionalization. It examines the changes that have led to their emergence. It then presents the main configurations of links between these three concepts, which fuel current debates and make it possible to understand them in terms of the contexts in which they are operationalized. The issues surrounding these links and the theoretical and methodological frameworks used to understand and interpret them are also reviewed. The article thus takes the form of a review of the existing literature. It concludes with a number of “key ideas” shared by the many practices and research projects in this field.

The text approaches at first the theoretical and practical conceptions based, on one hand, on the protagonism of the utopian realism, that is utopian options based on the contributions of Paulo Freire’s «viable’s radically new» and, on the other hand, «anticipation» of Jerzy Szachi. These ideas point towards existing paths within the social movements, NGO, associations, political projects, etc., aiming at the construction of a more human, free, just and altruistic society. Then, it is focuses on the conception of the public: universality, social visibility, social control, durability, civic culture and quest for an effective participative democracy. The existing conflicts are revealed as well as the positive steps realized in various countries, overcoming the complexity and the contemporary difficulties and bringing concrete elements for innovative sociocultural community development.

AbstractThe article looks at the role of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in programs targeting aboriginals within federal institutions. It proposes a critical reflection on the role of the effects of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (traditions, practices, rituals, chants, dances, etc.) within rehabilitation programs aimed at aboriginal populations serving sentences at detention centres in Canada. Our goal is to identify and better understand the impact and effectiveness of integrating aboriginal ICH in the rehabilitation process.

In the introductory remarks of this article the authors examine the birth of the newly industrialized countries and the emergence of a new international division of labor. After stressing the two modes of the industrial strategy followed by these countries, the authors look at two newly industrialized countries (Brazil and South Korea). These specific countries due to the interplay of both, objective factors (natural resources, location, manpower...) and policy choices have followed divergent development strategies. The authors conclude that it is not so much the classical policy dilemma import substitution vs expert promotion that will determine the future of these semi-industrialized countries, than their ability to master the technological know-how that sustains their industrial development. The new technological trends in robotics and telematics constitute powerful factors of relocation which may threaten the long run growth prospects of the semi-industrialized countries.
