It is not only the date that brings {Les Statues Meurent aussi} and {Les Voix du silence} together but a same problematic: What happens to a creation when it is annexed by art and the museum? The film seems to be a controversy, a reply to Malraux work: defense of empathy (Einfülung) that Malraux criticizes insofar it would ruin all possibility of metamorphosis. And yet, beyond the oppositions, one same assertion is present: a man is standing, by his creations, against destiny. The universal being sketched out then, could not be reduced to the universal in the name of which the Western world has too often destroyed other cultures.
