ABSTRACTThis article examines selected pieces of immigration legislation which the author feels are most pertinent in demonstrating how illegal migrants use their perceptions of immigration regulations in devising their strategies and tactics for remaining in Canada. The analysis proceeds from an investigation of immigration legislation and then summarizes the accounts of experience of twenty illegal migrants.

Despite the predominance of myriapods and the many ecological services they provide, this group of arthropods is little studied in eastern Canada, and many species remain to be discovered. This collection of the pauropod species Eurypauropus spinosus Ryder, 1879, is the first record for Québec and for Canada, and the first member of the family Eurypauropodidae to be identified in the country. It is the eighth species of pauropod known to occur in the province, but many others are probably present.
