    More information

For more than thirty years, in the People's Republic of China, so-called patriotic education has been based on spaces linked to death. In Shenyang and Jinzhou, in northeastern China, it has a solid basis in localism, which has been part of the national concept of “red tourism” since the 2000's. Former prison camps, battlefields and other places of massacre linked to the wars of the 20th century in the PRC are now being developed in the form of memorial parks, bases of patriotic education intended to promote the nationalistic vision of the communist regime. This article seeks to show in what ways spaces of death due to the war are developed, integrated, and promoted in urban areas and what places are reserved for the dead regarding the living.
