SummaryThis article examines feminist critiques of modern scientific knowledge on which discourses on development, modernization, and globalization are built. It argues for the importance of cultural narratives in the resistance movement against neoliberalism and to deconstruct the dominant narrative of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on equity, development, stability and democracy. Finally, through two examples of alternative cultural narratives from the debt cancellation movement and the movement for the exclusion of agriculture from the WTO, I analyze the role of the alternative globalization movement, and, in particular, feminist participation in this movement in the promotion of radically different ways of thinking as alternatives to the neoliberal doctrine of free trade.

The historic Silk Roads, which have connected East and West for centuries, have always had fundamental political, economic, and cultural dimensions. It is interesting to witness the reactivation of these roads, especially by China, just as the heirs of the three other historic empires of these roads (Ottoman, Persian, and Russian) are resurging in new forms and as part of a longer history. The question is whether this re-emergence of the Silk Roads will contribute to a balance of peace-producing powers or prove to be an element of further disturbance in a world already undergoing deep reconfiguration. One thing seems evident: the past and present existence of the Silk Roads act in a peripheral position occupied by Europe in the Eurasian space. As a first step, we will return to the imaginaries related to the Silk Roads in order to contextualize the ultimately marginal role that Europe could play. Then, we will see how the current roads also contribute to a peripheralization of Europe.

If Prévost's work is influenced by the theme of education, Le Doyen de Killerine (1735-1740) is the only work, which focuses on the adventures of a moral guide whose inexperience constantly casts doubt on his mission. Moreover, this specificity seems all the more remarkable as it will inspire L-S. Mercier in his drama entitled Le Nouveau Doyen de Killerine. The present study proposes to study how these works highlight the discourse of equivocal mentors, struggling with their weaknesses of man, through the study of two topoi, namely those of the change of identity and recognition.
