e-Sports are on the rise, and poised to feature at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It would therefore be important to examine this new gaming trend in terms of social and professional recognition at university. This paper reviews the fledging literature on e-sports and presents the conclusions of a study on the e-sport practices of 522 e-athletes attending university. The five study objectives were to: 1) identify training methods and conditions for e-athletes, 2) describe their physical exercise habits, 3) describe the e-sport experience from the e-athlete perspective, 4) identify emotional, cognitive, and social impacts of e-sports, and 5) better understand the potential for e-sport recognition as a “real” sport category. Relationships between e-sports and academia are also investigated. The originality of this study lies in its focus on an emerging and forward-looking field.

Universal bibliographic control (UBC) involves the establishment of a global authority file in which each person, corporate body, uniform title, and subject is identified by a number. This number identifies a document in which the standard form of the name or title is found in each linguistic and cultural context. However, the consideration of the authorities' physical person cannot go without the cultural specificities in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa in the context of the data web. In addition to the technical problem, it will be necessary to consider the cultural context because the drafting of authority records concerns an imminently cultural element : the name.

Some « metaphors of the future », an expression taken from Felwine Sarr's essay Afrotopia, emerge from Léonora Miano's story of anticipation, Red Empress, and highlight an African continent with a pacified future, enjoying a stable and flourishing economy. However, this rather positive vision of the African future gives rise to some controversy. Through a comparison between Felwine Sarr's essay and Léonora Miano's novel, this article examines how Red Empress oscillates between utopia and its opposite, dystopia. It also emphasizes the fruitful reflections (the famous « metaphors of the future ») that spring from projections into alternative worlds and attempt to show a way beyond the traditional dichotomy between utopia and dystopia.
