The International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning (IRRODL) published its first issue in 2000. This paper provides an overview of the journal’s development over its 25-year history using bibliometric indicators. We analyzed IRRODL’s performance relative to other journals in the field and have highlighted key contributing countries, institutions, and authors based on the Scopus database. Our approach used various bibliometric techniques, including the number of articles and citations, cites per paper, and the h-index. The findings reveal that IRRODL is a leading journal in open and distributed learning, attracting a diverse group of authors from institutions and countries worldwide. Currently, Athabasca University is by far the most productive university, and the United States and Canada are the most productive countries appearing in the journal. However, the journal is very diverse with publications from all over the world.

This article reports on part of the results of a research study conducted among international students (IS) attending Quebec universities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research focused on the social uses of ICTs and the quality of life of ISs during periods of confinement, and the results presented and discussed in this article relate more specifically to ISs’ experiences and perceptions of the measures and services offered by universities in the context of confinement. To meet this objective, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 40 ISs to explore in depth their personal life experiences and perceptions in the context of confinement. According to the ISs, the measures deployed by Quebec universities covered five main aspects of student life: (1) courses and research, (2) learning assessments, (3) support resources, (4) personal finances and (5) mental and physical health. In addition, the ISs identified (6) measures not taken by the universities and were able to express (7) their appreciation of the overall measures taken by the universities. The main findings from the seven response categories enabled us to identify various avenues for improvement, taking into account the specific characteristics of the ISs. These include recognizing the specificities of different groups and communities and strengthening the intercultural skills of decision-makers in educational institutions, in order to design effective interventions, programs and policies for ISs, particularly in times of pandemic.

This article analyzes the ethical and methodological issues regarding the application of research methods in Indigenous contexts in mined fields (Albera, 2001) in the Global South. By addressing refusals of access and ethnographic (des)encuentros (missed encounters), this article seeks to grasp the precarious conditions of mined fields in Mesoamerican Indigenous territory, characterized by asymmetries between actors as well as between interlocutors and the ethnographer. It also examines how field refusals of access can contribute to reevaluating the research object and approach, in this case shifting from a collaborative research project to an engaged ethnographic approach. This article concludes that research in Indigenous social minefields (Rodríguez-Garavito, 2011) requires the ethnographer to adopt values of respect, reciprocity, and relationality towards their interlocutors in the field to be attentive to the power dynamics, privileges, and constraints that they experience. To achieve this, the ethnographer must design the research flexibly so as to build a trusting relationship over time and to demonstrate humility, openness, and active listening.

This paper is an attempt to explain the changes of agricultural production modes in Cameroon, from a quasi-bio situation in the 20th century, to a situation of generalized chemical assistance in the 21st century. In this country, this is a complex process at the heart of which the phenomenon of globalization acts as a driving force for the inversion of productive values. The social effects make populations particularly vulnerable. Agriculture, a social activity whose purpose is to provide food and nutrition, is caught up in the vicious circle of pesticides and the distortion of endogenous modes of production. In a transdisciplinary heuristic process, the theoretical frame-work adopted is constructivism, whose essential modality is explanation through critique, where socio-ecological transition is the construction of a model in a world dominated by the contradictions of globalization. In Cameroon, for example, the agricultural sector has an opposite view of the model of socio-ecological transition, through the reversal of socio-economic and socio-ecological stakes.

This article explores the importance of transferring both tacit and explicit knowledge between traditional farmers, researchers and smart greenhouse operators within the rapidly evolving context of urban agriculture. Given the rapid pace of technological advancement, the use of knowledge life cycle mapping is essential to optimize practices in smart greenhouses. Limited space and real-time controlled growing conditions require tools to effectively organize and share critical information. Adapting traditional expertise in soil management, plant disease treatment and plant growth cycles to controlled environments maximizes productivity. This article presents various knowledge transfer models that aim to strengthen the connections between smart greenhouses and research institutions. This network promotes the integration of advanced technologies, including sensors and artificial intelligence, to develop sustainable and robust agricultural systems that are adapted to climatic realities, particularly in northern environments.

Away from theories concerning the « sacred », this articleexplores the way Spinoza and Kant use words usually associated or relatedto the “sacred” (sacré, saint, heilig). This article suggests the importance ofthe pragmatic and ethical effects that is thus sought at a certain distancefrom what has become, in the wake of the propositions of Otto, thephilosophical or anthropological options concerning the “sacred”.

The way in which the “Holy” is chanted in Christian worship once inspired Rudolf Otto’s theory of the “mysterium tremendum” and the “mysterium fascinans”. Today, the Sanctus is acclaimed in Eucharistic celebrations, internalised and constantly reaffirmed. But much has changed on account of liturgical law requirements, and of the mode of performance during congregational singing, usually in one’s mother tongue. Alternatives versions of the classical Sanctus seek a greater identification of the faithful with the “Holy”, while also considering the biblical origin of the text and the theological meaning of the Sanctus. An analysis of German songbooks reveals the authors’ use of various musical tools and of paraphrasing to modify the Sanctus: the leading theme is the deepening of one’s personal relationship with God, while the ancient Oriental context, i.e. the Sanctus as the song of the angels as heavenly hosts, recedes completely into the background.
