This article aims to present the research conducted in recent years by a multidisciplinary team on the questions of land-use conflict, and to reveal the methodology of survey and data collection, as well as the structure of the resulting database. We first define the scope of our study by providing a definition of these conflicts, of their characteristics and motives, of the ways they manifest themselves and of the actors involved. We then present the methodology we have used to identify conflicts ; a methodology based on a spatial analysis and the combined use of different data collection methods including surveys conducted by experts, analyses of the regional daily press and of data from the administrative litigation courts. Finally we present the Conflicts data base©, with its tables and nomenclatures, in which the data collected in different fields is reconciled and analysed (III), before providing a few examples of how this method can be used to analyse the case of the Greater Paris Region.

ABSTRACTControversial topics which are a source of sharp divisions between Jews and Christians could be addressed in the context of debates similar to the old disputationes, although conducted in a spirit of communion and mutual respect. To exemplify his point, the author explores four questions : 1) How can the statement “ the kingdom of God will be taken away from you” (Mt. 21 :43) be compatible with the admission by the Church, of the irrevocable character of the covenant between God and the Jewish people ? (2) Will the messianic kingdom be established on earth or in the heavens ? (3) Can Jesus be considered as the Messiah promised to the Jews, since so many prophecies have not been fulfilled and the expected return of Elijah (Mal. 4 :5) has not taken place yet ? (4). Is the State of Israel a mere political reality, without any connection with the history of salvation, or the « first fruits of the opening of Israel's redemption » ?

This study aims to analyze the performance of spectral classifications and object oriented classification, for mapping of the urban area of Cocody and Attécoubé. To achieve our aim, a satellite image at very high spatial resolution (VHSR) was used. For this work, these two methods of classifications were successively applied to three test sites, namely a well-built area, an area with poor housing and an undeveloped area. The results of two treatments are compared to analyze performances. It appears from these treatments that object-oriented classification is better suited than the spectral approach for mapping sites built because it improves the mapping accuracy of 4,58%. At sites with poor housing, the two classifications show almost similar comprehensive details. Thus, the spectral classification provides an improvement of 0,73% compared to the object-oriented approach. On undeveloped land, the spectral classification is best shown with an overall improvement of 8.22% compared to the object-oriented approach. In short, the object-oriented classification seems appropriate for the extraction of units of well-structured sites. When the level of organization of the site decreases, the performance of the object oriented classification fall in favour of the spectral classification.

This research analyzes the performance of two Brazilian business networks, Campina Grande and João Pessoa. The results reveal significant differences according to the operation mode in these networks. The network of Campina Grande has a dynamic operation that brings positive results to the group in contrast to that of João Pessoa. Its functioning can be explained by four variables that affected their performance : the role of institutions, the expectation of members and their collective and long term vision, the selection of partners based on a set of criteria, and the transfer of knowledge at several levels of the network. The network of João Pessoa remained an emerging and informal network. The members are rather motivated by individual and short-term goals.

Gender, Race and Class Dimensions of Nonstandard Work

Article published in Relations industrielles (scholarly, collection Érudit)

This review article critically analyzes and synthesizes the academic literature on nonstandard work and its gender, race and class dimensions. We argue that it is important and crucial to understand these dimensions of nonstandard work in order to develop appropriate labour policies. We present our discussion in a conceptual framework of duality within which nonstandard workforms are located. We discuss the role the unions could play in achieving equity in labour markets and conclude the paper with recommended labour policy changes to respond to the needs of women, particularly those racial minority and low economic class women employed in nonstandard jobs.

In this paper, the authors attempt to discuss the relationship between intra-organizational conflict and factionalism, and how this manifests itself in different ways in British and American unions. They start with a discussion of conflict, then attempt to set out the characteristics of fractions, They next look at factionalism comparatively, and finally attempt an analytical framework which looks at the dimensions of factionalism.

The active labour market policy has been used to reduce the duration of unemployment in Sweden. The lifetime employment System has been used to lower the incidence of unemployment in Japan. Will the adoption of similar policies in Canada produce comparable reductions in unemployment? Emulating Japan and Sweden could prove difficult, since their policies reflect and reinforce employment interests that are uery different from Canada's. As a result, neither lifetime employment nor active labour market policy is transferable to Canada without major modifications to suit the stakeholder interests of Canadian unions, employers, and employees.

This paper investigates the origins and development of unions in the Canadian banking industry since 1976. The historically low level of unionization in banking, coupled with its largely female workforce, makes bank unionization a significant development on the Canadian industrial relations scène.

Graduate student unions are beginning to attract attention in Canada and the United States. In Canada, unionization on campuses is especially important for organized labour, as union density has dropped below 30 percent for the first time in five decades. Graduate student unionization is also important in the wider context of precarious employment in North America. Despite the decline in overall union density, graduate student unions have continued to grow in the past decade. However, there is a paucity of scholarly research in this area. In this article, we trace the historical origins of graduate student unions in Canada, discuss relevant legal concerns, analyze pertinent collective bargaining and strike issues, and suggest avenues for future research.
