In the face of the multiple crises that the European Union has experienced in recent years, one of the most frequently mentioned ways to allow European construction to continue to move forward is to move towards a differentiated Europe, by allowing member states to choose different integration rhythms. If differentiation is not a novelty in European construction, what is new is that it is no longer seen as a last-resort solution, but as an assumed choice. While this option of a differentiated European Union has certain advantages, it is not without risks, both politically and legally.
