The present study reports on factors determining the adoption of social networks in distance education (DE) in a health context. An online questionnaire, based on the acceptance and use of technology model (UTAUT) was administered to 93 students from Niger universities and colleges who used social networks to ensure educational continuity. The Partial Least-Squares (PLS) method was used to predict the factors influencing the adoption of social networks in DE. The results showed that performance expectation, effort expectation, social influence and intention to use are determining factors in the adoption of social networks, with a moderating effect of gender.

From the late 1960s onward, Canadian social protection began being amalgamated with the tax report. However, this trend towards the fiscalization of social protection appears to this day to be poorly understood by the populations it targets. With a view to analyzing the public policies in this regard, we developed a collaborative research project with agents involved in the placement of women in the labour market. That project confirmed the generally poor understanding of this dynamic of fiscalization. In this article, we will present this research approach and some of the tools utilized during the process. We will then review our own approach to understanding the fiscalization of social protection, starting with the universal basic income movement, which began approximately twenty-five years ago. In doing so, we highlight how this movement, which has inspired citizen mobilization, could allow contributing to popular education with regard to the fiscalization of social protection.

This study examines the reception of visual communications aimed to counter violence against women, created by the civil society, and using gender disruption strategies (GDS: disturbing gender-based relations). It seeks to provide a better understanding of the reception and the influences of such strategies, through a mediatized form of human and social interactions and a triangulated mixed-method (focus group and “before-after” attitudes measurement protocol). The results show that, in reception: (1) violence is perceived in its collective dimension; education is the more important way to counter this social problem, while notably the law and contemporary feminism represent resistances to change. Characters and violence based in reality constitute specific cues of GDS. (2) Furthermore, the GDS generate a psychological discomfort but a little virtual empathy. Finally, this research shows (3) that GDS significantly decreases hostile and benevolent sexist attitudes.

The purpose of this article is to present concrete responses given by emergency caregivers to manifestations of religious freedom by patients in emergency situations. We suggest that a pragmatic harmonization of religious values occurs in emergency rooms. For this harmonization to occur, practical matters such as time considerations and the availability of human resources and certain physical criteria such as sufficient space are adequately met to address the religious needs of patients. Emergency caregivers are required to comply with formal standards, such as the constitutional right to freedom of religion, but also with so-called standards of practice, which are given everyday, non-explicit standards. This study shows that there is a kind of affinity between legal rules ‒ state normativity associated with the respect of the right to freedom of religion ‒ and norms of practice ‒ informal normativity expressed through daily practice, a proximity which shows the complex character of the legal forum that are emergency rooms. This article is based on a two-year study, from Autumn 2018 to Autumn 2020; a period that was in divided into data collection and analysis stages. Four emergency rooms were selected to participate in the study: three in Montreal and one in Sherbrooke. A total of 50 participants took part in the research, specifically 22 nurses, 19 physicians, and 9 caregivers. Forty-five semi-structured interviews lasting an average of 40 minutes were conducted, as well as 241 hours of on-site observation, with an average of 80 hours of observation in three of the four emergency rooms in our sample.

On October 6, 2020, Quebec, along with some 40 other states, gave the green light to a contact tracing application based on technology developed by Apple and Google to combat COVID-19. Contact tracing applications, however, raise a number of issues related to democratic rights and social justice, most notably privacy and equality in the face of a technology to which not everyone has access. How did this object become an object of convergence in the use of digital surveillance ? The argument developed in this article suggests that mass adoption masks power dynamics between developers, civil society, public health authorities and governments in regard to the design of technologies used for pandemic management. Apple, Google and their supporters have succeeded in normalizing a technology that materializes a distrust of the state. This analysis illuminates the power dynamics behind the promotion of technical tools in the fight against COVID-19, as well as the blind spots generated by the primacy of privacy.

Several studies have documented the influence of various parental and environmental factors on child maltreatment. Although these factors play an undeniable role in the quality of the response that a parent can offer his child's needs, a growing number of studies emphasize that a history of childhood maltreatment can take precedence over these factors and explain the difficulties once a parent.
