Enquête quantitative sur les dispositifs de médiation numérique dans les arts de la scène au Québec

    More information

This article reports on the results of a quantitative survey of cultural and digital mediation conducted in 2019 among organizations involved in the production and distribution of theatre, dance and circus. The analysis of the 164 questionnaires received reveals a gap between the proportion of organizations offering cultural mediation and those offering digital cultural mediation. Despite widespread use of mediation and an enviable social media presence, most still do not hire a person responsible for cultural mediation, digital or otherwise, have not developed a digital strategy and rarely evaluated their actions, which may explain the relatively traditional nature of the proposed activities. Thus, it appears that the potential offered by conventional or digital mediation tools, and the exploitation thereof, is still weakly exploited in Quebec’s performing arts community.

This research aimed to identify the challenges and learning of Higher Education teachers in physical education during the COVID‑19 and their expectations for post-pandemic education. The research was carried out through a focus group with six professors (from private universities). Professors witnessed challenges related to the transition from traditional teaching to distance learning, mediated by technologies, which led to: experimenting new technological tools and new methodologies; developing new ways of relating to students; a major collaboration between professors; transferring experiences from other fields to Higher Education. Professors also expressed expectations of changes in teaching after the pandemic, integrating more digital technologies in Higher Education. COVID‑19 provided new opportunities for professional learning.

Education-family-work balance presents significant challenges for student parents, especially student mothers. The COVID-19 pandemic further complicated interactions between these life spheres by eroding the borders between them. This study explores the education-family-work needs of student mothers at a Quebec cégep, as well as institutional strategies implemented by the cégep to meet these needs. The college component of this field research was conducted during the second wave of COVID-19 in Quebec. This study also sheds light on education-family-work balance during unprecedented circumstances. Understanding student mothers’ needs and institutional strategies that address education-family-work balance is important to eliminate obstacles, particularly institutional obstacles, that prevent these women from accessing education. This study adopts an inclusive approach to adult education attentive to the specificity of their needs.

Virtual worlds and online games experienced a remarkable increase in popularity in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on ethnographic research, we discuss the use of Second Life as a space of sociability in contexts of physical distancing in several countries. Focusing on the socio-technical characteristics of this digital environment, as well as on the experiences of its users, we propose that the current appeal of this type of platform can be explained by distinctive elements, including: immersion, avatar embodiment, synchronicity, and persistence.

The viewing of Turkish soap operas in Greece is considered to be a « taboo » activity not only because of the tormented political relations between the two neighboring countries, but also because of reasons of cultural legitimacy. Treated as intellectually poor and « less Greeks », those who are fans of these series are highly criticized or even marginalized by their entourage. Within this context, online communities function as shelters where women who enjoy watching Turkish soap operas can express themselves, exchange and develop their personal identity. In these communities, not only « female » preoccupations are legitimized but also women have the possibility to conduct practices which are otherwise prohibited in society. These groups are virtual spaces in which women conduct resistance activities against the patriarchic system which imposes subordination on them. Consequently, their participation in such communities could be considered as a feminist « praxis ».

At the time of digital economy, the democratization of the social uses of digital tools by people has given rise a new sector of production in the informal sector in Cameroon. This paper seeks to analyze the way the youth, who are facing the increased worsening of their life conditions, invest their digital skills as an economic opportunity, by exercising the job of "downloader" of cultural productions in urban areas. The study is based on an ethnographic survey combining interviews and the participative observation. It shows how youth, in their self-employment dynamics, mobilize their imagination and entrepreneurial skills. The appropriation of digital technologies by downloaders structures social gender relations, contributing to the production of masculinity in the urban space. By invading the roads, these youth maintain socially hierarchical interactions between themselves, whereas their relationship with employees of the council in charge of regulating the occupation of urban space are characterized by power states and corrupt practices which partly structure the functioning of the postcolonial State.

The author proposes a reading of agroecological feminist mobilizations in Brazil from the conceptualizations of the « feelingthinking » and the corazonar. The link to the Earth and the fusion between emotions and political analysis are analysed by studying militant supports (mística, songs, poems, slogans) and interviews with rural activists. Understanding this feelingthinking light on the different aspects of violence. An analysis of gender violence is proposed, understood as an agrocapital strategy. Socio-environmental domestic violence and « agrocapitalist féminicides » are part of what the author calls an « agrocapitalist necropolitics ». The collective strategies of surpassing developed by the activists promote an affirmation of the strength and continuity of the struggle and life.
