Greece comes back regularly to the front page. The economic and financial crisis, as well as the migration crisis affecting this South-Eastern European country have highlighted the complex place of religion, the difficult management of religious pluralism in this predominantly Orthodox country. Torn between identity isolation and humanitarian action, Greece today is trying to cope with the migration issue while the state authorities keep revisiting the symbolic and legal status of the Orthodox Church. Whether through the reform of religious education in public schools or the remuneration of the clergy by the state, the rise of religious pluralism in Greece is considered as a dimension of secularization promoted in and by the European sphere. However, is the migration crisis strengthening religious pluralism or challenging the Orthodox Church to overcome identity tensions through its humanitarian commitment?

Cocaine perfectly symbolizes globalization itself. As a performance and insertion enhancer, cocaine embodies a certain “spirit” of the times marked by the cult of competition. The globalization of its use coincides with the increase of international commercial activity following the emergence of China and the integration of the former Soviet empire in the world capitalist system. Cocaine traffic flows through maritime commercial routes, especially by means of container ships. Once a staple of Western elites, cocaine consumption is now increasing worldwide and can be seen as a symbol of mass consumer society.

The unrealized Appunti per un poema sul Terzo Mondo (Notes Towards a Poem for the Third World, 1968) was part of Pasolini's experimental documentary film practice of “notes” (appunti), a series of short- and medium-length features mixing both fiction and non-fiction elements. Very much in line with the work of experimental filmmakers of his time, the “notes” genre places itself at the intersection of various cinematic forms: reflexive ethnographic documentary, experimental visual travelogue and the essay film. In Pasolini, travelling to the Third World stands for exploring the political project of the post-Bandung non-aligned movement as well as the political activist's aspiration to find in Third World struggles a space of radical political change, a revolution da farsi. The essayistic, open form on Pasolini's “notes” aims precisely at reproducing in its own very hybrid status the openness of the revolutionary movement.

The mummified corpse stands as a challenge to death, and raises a few psychoanalytical questions. Its aptitude for the show has made Egyptian mummies very popular in Victorian England. On top of being an erotic and macabre object, the mummy is also an Imperial fetish and enters literature and, later, Hollywood's movie screens, as a revengeful and evil character.
