This article presents three actions for conducting transformative and emancipatory studies, with the purpose of increasing their presence in education sciences. Each action emerges from the work of researchers adopting decolonial, critical race or Afrocentric feminist epistemologies. The first consists in recognizing the existence of epistemic injustices and revealing their close relationship with social injustices. The second aims to make visible and understandable the organization of power, both on the side of oppression and resistance. The third calls for recognizing and supporting the collective, to overcome constitutive ignorance of epistemic injustice.

This article explores the lived experiences of international students (ISs) and teachers in regional CEGEPs in Quebec during the COVID-19 pandemic. A qualitative study in three regional CEGEPs with low ethno-cultural diversity aimed to describe the challenges faced by ISs and the role of teachers in the context of the pandemic. In winter 2021, 22 ISs and 18 teachers participated in semi-structured interviews. The analysis, based on Navarro and Tudge's neo-ecological model of development, examined interactions between individuals and the diverse social systems influencing them. The results reveal that ISs had trouble with concentration, motivation and adapting to technological tools. The pandemic limited their opportunities to socialize and discover the host society, both of which are central to the experience of studying abroad. Teachers also faced challenges adapting but were able to play a key role in mitigating the repercussions of the crisis by adjusting their teaching practices. This study nonetheless highlights the importance of rethinking teaching approaches and reception policies to better support ISs, particularly in regional contexts and in times of crisis.

The exponential worldwide demand for sand over the last few decades has stimulated sand extraction and trade. Following Wolf's analysis of the flow and circulation of goods in time and space, and the creation of interconnections in the context of the rise of capitalism, I propose to analyze sand as the current pillar of the capitalist system, the dynamics of its extraction and the markets that derive from it. The article introduces a twofold approach: the first one focusing on the international scale, and the second one, on an example of a local sand market extracted from rivers in a transboundary river basin in southern Mexico, shared with Guatemala. Beyond sand demand, the low market value of sand and the importance of proximity in exchanges, one of the key elements emerging from these interrelationships is the entanglement of regulations at different scales.

Prioritizing the elimination of violence against women is a societal choice and requires the collaboration of community authorities and expertise. Accompanying immigrants and refugees' women calls for an approach based on intersectionality. Applying this approach is not without its challenges. This research aims to explore and better understand the place of intersectionality in collaborative practices concerning violence against women from the perspective of immigrant women social workers. A feminist qualitative methodology was used. Result reveals that racialized women are under-represented, power structures persist, the intersectionality paradigm remains generally unknown in intervention, and structural obstacles hinder its application. To this end, concrete actions are proposed, and the twofold challenge, both structural and identity-related, is discussed. The article highlights the lessons learned and the challenges faced by visible minorities navigating within groups composed almost entirely of people from the dominant culture.

By analyzing the performance of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the MENA region, and its relationship with the characteristics of these operations and the quality of institutions, we find that M&A create value only for the acquirer. The acquirer's value is positively influenced by mergers, the target's status, and the quality of institutions, but negatively impacted by M&A experience. Additionally, the target's value is negatively affected by the size of the transaction and the level of control of corruption.

This article examines the meta-historical components of gaslamp fantasy, a genre born in the 2000s. Gaslamp fantasy depicts an alternative Victorian era, in which magic plays a central role and significant geopolitical changes have occured. This recomposed History results in a blending of eras, creating a time map that simultaneously unfolds several periods of the “long” nineteenth century. The article highlights how the apparent casualness of these combinations testifies to a creative project vis-à-vis History and art history, involving a fetishism that is both technological and metafictional.
