Young people 12 to 17 years old regularly use digital tools and construct related personal practices. Inevitably, these practices relate to the skills expected in the field of education, and the development of these digital uses can negatively or positively affect academic performance. Over the past four years, we have been studying young people's non-formal use of these tools and the impacts of related practices in the field of education. Our study conducted in 2013 and 2014 is complementary to research performed at the French collège level (first half of secondary school). We have sought to describe the digital use of teenagers and to measure its impact on their grades at school, but also on their social and pedagogical competencies, particularly related to working autonomously and taking initiative.
