    The article investigates the conceptual categories which are associated with the notion of documentary (fiction, truth, reality, verisimilitude) as they are inscribed in certain filmic configurations, and in the positions which are assigned to the spectator by certain modes of address specific to documentary. The analysis of the documentary problematic ("documentarity") throws light on the two fundamental modes of "monstration" and narration in one particular context: the comparaison of the documentary potential specific to various iconic media.
