Science fiction is an efficient medium for the exploration of alternate gender representation and the development of new feminine characters, as tough women are recently becoming more prevalent. In the case of The Hunger Games, a recent Young Adult (YA) trilogy by Suzanne Collins, the main character, Katniss, is subjected to artificial acts of performance and placed in extreme survival situations. She is placed on the edge of human and feminine boundaries and her body projects an innovative image, as it is transformed by multiple hardships. However, as a non-traditional tough woman, does Katniss really challenge and undermine gender stereotypes?
