This article considers the conditions surrounding the popularization of knowledge at a time when (new) information and communication technologies allow for immediate access to a quasi-infinite amount of data and knowledge, without the use of the usual intermediaries (mediators, presenters, teachers . . .). The article addresses characteristics of the problematic mediation process that the popularization of science represents and the changes that this field has experienced in recent decades. However, rather than focus on the role of mediators, the article suggests that the real question is the nature and evolution of the relationships between knowledge and society as well as the ways they are portrayed, key among them, digital technology.

Sureties to keep the peace (810 Cr.C.) are a commonly used measure in cases of domestic violence, and their use has increased in recent years. Both a judicial and an extrajudicial measure, the “810” is not a conviction but a preventive and non-punitive measure that does not result in a criminal record for the defendant. Despite its frequent use, few studies have examined victims' experiences with the 810 to determine if is effective in meeting their need for security. We examine the context in which the 810 is used in cases of domestic violence and the reasons that women agree to its use. Our findings show that use of the 810 in the criminal prosecution of domestic violence helps to keep women who are victims of domestic violence on the periphery of the justice system.

This paper analyzes the repertoire of the “sustainablecity” by conducting a comparative review of a corpus of eighteenFrench and English-language journals. While the term “sustainablecity” has become ubiquitous in the discourse of policy-makers,practitioners and scholars, it is unclear what it actually means. Someuse this language for its practical scope and impact in the making ofurban policies ; others criticize it as a tool for legitimizing orpromoting growth-oriented policies (the same as “sustainabledevelopment”). This article aims at going beyond this duality.Statistical and lexical analyses using the IRaMuTeQ software areperformed to examine the plural meanings given to the“sustainable city” by evidencing lexical co-occurrences.Changing and often contradictory figures are identified across a widevariety of cultural areas : the “green city”, the“city of short distances”, the “just city” andthe “participatory city”. This allows us to re-embodyprocesses, actors and issues behind the discourse and look at them asmirrors of the contemporary making of the city. Ultimately, we find the“sustainable city” to be a genuinely political repertoire– not the expression of a self-evident, overarching economic orenvironmental impetus.

This article discusses materiality as a structural component of the narrative in House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. The reader is constantly reminded of the physicality of the book by being confronted with a systematic blurring of words. Letters are being enlarged or obliterated. The text is staged on the page so that its construction relies on a system of deconstruction, based on an aesthetic principle of frustration. This article explores the paradox whereby the more the narrative disintegrates, the more the plot ties itself and captivates the reader. What are the strategies available to the reader to progress within this intricate text?
