The goal is to explore the reciprocal links between emotional support and a child's engagement to their teacher and peers in five-year preschool education. Twelve teachers and 113 children were observed in the classroom. A moderate level of emotional support and moderate-low levels of child engagement were noted. Only the emotional support offered in the classroom predicted the children's positive engagement toward their peers. These results underscore the importance of continuing to study interactional dynamics in the classroom.

In 2016, the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling (COHDS–CHORN) at Concordia University in Montreal, in collaboration with the Association of Parents and Friends of Victims of the Tutsi Genocide in Rwanda (Page-Rwanda) that represents Tutsi survivors of the 1994 genocide who now live in Montreal, decided to create a digital platform to share and explore twenty-eight video interviews with survivors. This research and creation project in oral history and digital humanities is an opportunity not only to renew collaborative research in oral history, but also to develop new ways of listening, analyzing, and sharing life stories.

Research Framework: Foster-to-adopt families foster children intending to adopt them. Children placed in this type of resource are generally between the ages of 0-2 years and considered at high risk of abandonment, but they are not adoptable at the beginning of placement and most continue to see their birth parents through supervised visits. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to shed light on the challenges that the child's dual family affiliation poses for foster-to-adopt parents during placement. It aims to better understand how foster-to-adopt parents negotiate the child's dual family connection during placement and throughout the adoption process. Methodology: To meet these objectives, 31 semi-structured interviews were conducted with foster-to-adopt parents in three regions of Quebec. Parents were interviewed twice, once within a year of the start of the placement and again 18 months later. Results: The results are based on four main themes: 1) foster-to-adopt parents' perception of the child's birth parents; 2) fears and apprehensions experienced about the child's custody; 3) issues of naming and designating parents; and 4) the role of child welfare workers in the contact between the two families. Conclusions: Family affiliation and relationships of children in foster-to-adopt placements are based on a fragile balance that can be explained in part by the distinct and sometimes opposing intentions of the foster-to-adopt parents and birth parents, but also by other factors such as the vulnerability of the birth parents, the profile of the children in care and variability of the child welfare workers' practices. Contribution: Foster-to-adopt placements remain little studied in Quebec. This study provides a better understanding of various issues underlying this type of placement in terms of family dynamics and relationships.

Introduction. Persons who use drugs by injection (PUDI) face multiple threats to their health and life in addition to being subject to repression and social marginalization.Methodology. A qualitative study was carried out to understand the links that PWID establish between psychoactive substance use and health, as well as to explore how they perceive their own health. Twenty-six one-on-one interviews and two focus groups were conducted with a total of 30 participants. The study took place in three community harm reduction organizations. The data were analyzed thematically.Results. The participants, for the most part, perceive themselves to be in good health, despite their drug consumption or their medical diagnoses. On the other hand, others consider themselves to be in very poor health mainly because of their symptoms, functional limitations, emotional and psychological problems. While drug use can sometimes be part of a self-destructive dynamic, it can also be a way to cope with life challenges and maintain health, including avoiding very trying opioid withdrawal. It is above all the associated lifestyle, such as the quest for the product, sleep deprivation or the severing of ties with relatives, which are all elements perceived as harmful to health. Thus, one of the central objectives expressed by participants in relation to their health is to be able to better control their drug and alcohol use.Conclusion. The fact that many PWID seem to have a desire to have their drug consumption reduced without necessarily aiming for abstinence may help to direct the health and social programs and services intended for them towards a harm reduction approach.

This article explores data drawn from a qualitative study conducted between January and June 2014 with Franco-Ontarian college and university students. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 participants to explore their postsecondary pathways and linguistic issues. Using Breton's (1994) modalities of belonging, this analysis reveals that a majority of participants are attached to a Franco-Ontarian cultural heritage and that they mobilize a cultural repertoire which includes culture, history and territory. In addition, a new dimension of belonging emerges from the data with the affirmation of a plural contemporary francophone community. This study illustrates the development of an intertwined sense of belonging to an historical francophone community heritage and a contemporary diverse Franco-Ontarian community which includes young Francophones from various ethnic and racial backgrounds.

This article highlights the integration of Instagram into the teaching and learning of engaged poetry. For these purposes, we share our experience on the adaptation of a didactic online module based on Web 2.0 tools around the textual genre engaged poetry in a second-year university-level literature course. This teaching module is inspired by the socio-interactional current, the so-called "action-oriented" approach aligned with the Plan d'action numérique en éducation et en enseignement supérieur du Québec. The module is based on the multidisciplinary work of Natasha Kanapé Fontaine, a Quebec Innu author, and culminates in the publication of an engaged poem on Instagram, a social platform that allows the visual component to be combined with the textual one. Data from student evaluations and the course's final project illustrate that Instagram could be considered as an educational platform capable of (i) fostering interactions, (ii) developing a sense of community, (iii) growing imagination, creativity, and critical thinking in second/foreign language, (iv) increasing learners' intercultural and digital competencies and (v) contribute to the appropriation of the poetic genre.

We analyse the key factors and mechanisms controlling the creation of local clusters between public and private actors in higher education. Using the new public governance framework, we present a literature review on public-private partnerships, public policy instruments, and “coopetition”, a concept borrowed from strategic management. We show that the processes undelying ComEU UCA reflect a strategy of public-private coopetition, consistent with the new public governance framework.
