Composer and multi-instrumentalist Frédéric Lebrasseur is one of the most original and popular musicians on the Quebec scene. An improviser, noise artist, and multidisciplinary artist, he has actively collaborated with the worlds of theatre, dance, and circus since 1991. In 2013, he co-founded the company Machine de Cirque alongside five circus artists. The composition work typically takes place on stage, during creative sessions with the circus artists. Although the constraints related to the public health situation have compromised this practice, the preparation and creation of new shows has not been interrupted. Has this crisis made it possible to develop new approaches in the composition processes for the circus? Frédéric Lebrasseur's account, combined with those of other members of the company, is accompanied by various additional documents (excerpts of shows, recordings, working documents, scores).

The development of rubrics is a complex task that requires a good knowledge of the object of evaluation and the learning level of the students for whom it is intended. From the several types of rubrics used in school environments, the analytic rubrics and developmental rubrics prove to be especially appropriate choices to guide the judgment of the evaluators. By following the research and development methodology, the designers engaged in a reflective process which, after many round trips in the formulation of criteria, scale and descriptors, led to the development, validation and implementation testing of three prototypes of analytic rubrics. The results make it possible to identify the elements to be considered in the construction of this tool for pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the first cycle of secondary school who present a great diversity of cognitive profiles.

Context Children living with a mentally ill parent are a vulnerable population, at higher risk of various psychosocial and mental health problems. They are overrepresented in youth mental health and child protection services. Adult mental health services that treat parents have the opportunity to identify and support children in these families. However, to date, there is still little knowledge on the extent of family-centered practices offered by professionals from different disciplinary fields in Quebec.

Although deficit-based approaches are still predominant in teacher education, there is a growing recognition of the potential contribution of strength-based approaches to develop a positive professional identity. In light of this observation, we tested out an innovative reflective writing activity, based on positive psychology, with fifty preschool/primary teacher trainees in Quebec. The analysis of these "imprints" allows us to identify various aspects of the trainees' professional identity, to chart the evolution of the process of identity construction, and to gauge the impact of this type of activity in making this process more explicit.

Research Framework : Refugee parents are particularly at risk of experiencing structural, social and mental health difficulties upon arrival in Quebec. Among the many challenges encountered, settling in a sociocultural context different from that of their country of origin can lead to significant difficulties, especially when these contexts include discordant elements. These challenges are likely to be heightened when children are between 0 and 5 years old. Objectives  : This study explores the experience of parenthood among refugee mothers who find themselves at the intersection of different sociocultural contexts and who have a child between the age of 0 and 5. How do they experience parenthood in the face of different cultural elements?Methodology : Fifteen participants were interviewed via semi-structured interviews about their values, their parenting goals, and the challenges they have encountered as mothers since their arrival in the Quebec sociocultural context. Results : The results reveal sociocultural differences within three themes: 1) how they conceive the family and the ties within it, 2) how they conceive the ties with the neighbourhood, as a support network, and 3) how they conceive their child’s individual freedoms and rights. Conclusions : Analysis of the results highlights a difference underlying all three themes: the importance of the collective in the daily lives of the participants, as opposed to the individualism that they feel prevails in Quebec. The discussion underlines the multi-systemic dimension of this difference, and illustrates how it affects refugee mothers’ everyday experience. Contribution : The study provides a better understanding of the settlement experience of refugee mothers in Quebec. A number of recommendations and avenues of intervention are proposed to help support refugee families.

Research framework: With the help of the “ Bureau des migrations intéressant les Départements d’Outre-mer (BUMIDOM)”, thousands of Guadeloupeans left their island for a better future. In their decision to leave, or to return, family ties have influenced their choices and migration experience. Objective: This article looks at the mechanisms operating within the couple and extended family that influence the migratory process of Guadeloupeans who emigrated to mainland France between 1963 and 1981 under the BUMIDOM scheme. Methodology: Semi-directive individual life story interviews were conducted in Guadeloupe and France with 31 participants on the migration policy who left Guadeloupe between 1963 and 1981, aged 64 to 87 at the time of the interview in 2022. The life-course approach as a framework for analysis highlights similarities and divergences of experience, and discourse analysis enables us to understand the way in which the family intervenes in migration choices. Results : While the motivations for leaving initially express a need for individualization and emancipation, the migratory experience is significantly oriented and influenced by the migratory imaginary and family ties. The question of “returning home”, when it arises, marks the limits of individualization and often determines the choice of the society to which one belongs. Conclusion: Family dynamics are an integral part of the decision to emigrate. Migration choices are influenced by the imaginary and representations of the host society; these representations circulate in the emigration society and are conveyed both by the migrants themselves and their entourage.Contribution : Families play a key role in the emigration process. This article questions the limits of the individualization of trajectories in a migratory context and focuses on the family logics that influence choices in a migratory context.

This article presents the analysis of discussions about 36 historical film productions on an online forum whose central focus is the Bechdel test. This test consists in three criteria: the film must include two named female characters (1); these two women must talk with each other at least one time during the movie (2) and their discussion must about something other than men (3). The analysis shows that the online debate platform leads users to discuss gender constructs, the relevance of the test itself, and the historical agency of women. By questioning the presence or absence of the elements of the test, internet users discuss obstacles and enablers to the understanding of the active role of women in history as well as the constraints and complex context they have had to face (historical agency). Our analysis reveals that the obstacles and enablers identified vary according to the type of historical films discussed (military, biographical, social struggles). The article illustrates the potential for this type of discussion to reveal gender and develop critical thinking in high school history classrooms.

Test anxiety affects about 15% of students and has a negative impact on their psychological and academic functioning. Several programs showing promising effects have been developed to intervene with these adolescents. However, no study seems to have tested the change mechanisms of these programs. This study aims to analyze the specific mechanisms and in-session processes of the Pastel program, a group program consisting of six one-hour workshops aimed at reducing test anxiety, through semi-structured interviews conducted with 21 secondary 4 and 5 students (85% identifying as female) and nine facilitators (78% identifying as female). Initially, a hypothetico-deductive approach was used to examine the change mechanisms of the program, and then, an inductive approach was used to identify other potential processes. Thematic analyses were used to identify main and sub-themes based on recurring patterns in the interviews. Thus, perceived changes were explained by specific change mechanisms (e.g., reduction of cognitive distortions, improvement in problem-solving abilities, enhancement of organizational and study skills, etc.) and in-session processes (e.g., group format, motivation and engagement, or relational patterns). These results validate the change model of the Pastel program and more broadly, the usefulness of the different strategies used in programs targeting the reduction of test anxiety.
