In recent years, a significant amount of research has been done on the varieties of spoken French in Western Canada. Much remains to be done, nonetheless, and it is important to continue to collect, describe and analyze data, as we seek to present an accurate portrait of the Francophone communities in Western Canada. This has been the principal objective of this team of six researchers working on the particularities of each variety of Western Canadian French and on each community where the language is spoken. Moving from East to West (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta) and serving as a foundation for further research, this paper offers a descriptive survey of current research activities in the field and suggests ways to reflect on the interpretation of both existing and newly-collected spoken language corpuses. The variety of corpuses presented here allows for further analysis in connection with other large-scale projects (PFC – Le français à la mesure d'un continent), in an effort to enrich our knowledge of the many varieties of French in the Francophone world.

The financing of small businesses (SBs) remains a key concern, which this article addresses through the study of the poorly addressed topic of the financing decision through the demand-side. The article is based on the importance of the role of the manager as a decision maker. Taking a step aside from the work in classical entrepreneurial finance, this research focuses on the building of the decision, and is based on a processual approach. To this end, the theoretical framework is based on the initial hypothesis of a manager's choice based on a proxemic logic. Seven cases are then studied empirically to explore this hypothesis, using developments from strategic decision-making in SMEs. The results reveal the existence of a behavioral spectrum ranging from proactivity to an opportunistic wait-and-see attitude among executives of SMEs. Decision-making can be modeled in four fundamental stages. They also show a limitation of the historical three-dimensional model to study the financing decision in SMEs. Finally, they suggest embracing the proxemics approach as a heuristic for small business management, particularly with respect to financing decisions.

This article explores challenges that Francophone newcomers face at their arrival in a francophone community in a minority context in Canada, as well as the impact of these obstacles on, and moderating factors associated to, the integration process. A qualitative research was conducted, using semi-structured interviews with sixty immigrants or refugees in three Canadian cities. The most challenging obstacle is the language barrier, as it has a direct impact on social integration and employment-seeking. The migration experience also has an impact on mental health, interpersonal relationships and physical health. Social support and personal resilience foster adaptation into the host community.

This paper explores the past, present, and future of library marketing in the United States. While its foundations were laid more than a century ago, not every library is up-to-speed in its knowledge or practice. There are “Haves” with plenty of space, staff, and money, and “Have Nots” that lack some necessities. In the midst of this uneven landscape, the author discusses the organizations and publications that support it, details the trends in four categories, and lists national campaigns and awards. Special attention is paid to the continuing challenges and the possible future scenarios.

The literature on resource orchestration provides a process-based and complexity perspective for understanding the growth of the VSE with support. However, few studies have focused on the representations of entrepreneurial actors about the managerial and entrepreneurial actions which explain growth. Yet, finer knowledge about the mechanisms underlying the orchestration of resources would be useful to actors and entrepreneurial support professionals facing this challenge. To that end, this article proposes the use of critical realism which purpose is to develop a research design based on the Group Concept Mapping (GCM) as a bottom-up mixed methodological framework. The GCM method is used to produce intercase research representations to examine the conceptual representations shared by entrepreneurial actors owners of VSEs at the growth phase and evolving in distinct support systems ; one in Quebec (NQC = 25) and the other in France (NFR = 15). The intercase results presented in this article contribute in two ways to the theoretical concepts underpinning resource orchestration. First, four self-reinforcing growth-generating mechanisms are identified in line with the antecedents of growth. Second, conjectures formulated by retroduction to the theoretical notions contribute to an articulation of the resource orchestration framework for the VSE with support.

The aim of this research is to explore corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in decentralised territorial communities (DTCs) in Cameroon and to characterise those that are most conducive to sustainable local development. To achieve this, interviews were conducted with 12 district councils in the “Centre” region of the country, selected by convenience. The data collected over a four-week period was subjected to computerised content analysis. Analysed through the prism of its three traditional aspects (social, economic and environmental), CSR within the sampled districts takes on several consonances depending on the contextual variables. The main results obtained show that the CSR initiatives identified within the districts are conducive to sustainable local development through the well-being of the personnel and the population (improved living conditions), the economic development of the town or village (sustainable economic infrastructures and local entrepreneurship) and the preservation of the environment (a healthy environment). These results give a unique colour to CSR in the world of DTCs and allow us to discover new depths of CSR.
