The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of guided constructive play on the manifestations of thinking development of preschoolers (4-year-old) in comparison with free constructive play, i.e. without teacher support. We used an experimental research design with pre and posttest. Fifteen 4-year-old preschool classes from Quebec participated in the study and 27 children were observed using the Grille d'observation des habiletés de la pensée, a tool developed for this study. The findings showed a statistically significant difference between the pre- and posttest behaviors of “experimentation or investigation”, as they increased in the guided play condition. Similarly, a difference was also observed for behaviors that does not correspond to constructive play, showing that children's constructive play is less interrupted in the guided constructive play condition. These results demonstrate that guided play is a form of support which has the potential to improve the development of 4-year-old preschoolers' thinking.

Many studies have highlighted various characteristics of populist discourse. This raises the question of the extent to which populist discourse differs from non-populist discourse. To answer this question, we textometrically subjected the programs of ten populist and ten non-populist political actors, confronting two opponents in the same country. The analysis reveals that populists and non-populists have much in common, constrained as they are to adjust their opinions to the political questions related to a country and to the general requirements of the dynamic between a contender for government and the electorate. The analysis also finds some dissimilarities, such as the fact that populist platforms are proportionally more insistent than non-populists on economic issues and that non-populist platforms are more animated than others by social democratic principles.

As a research tool, the library catalogue allows the public to use specific information, such as the author and title, to find documents. However, given the many user-friendly tools that exist, researchers perceive the catalogue as being less relevant and appealing. Some libraries have tried to regain the confidence of users by renewing the traditional library catalogue by making it visually more attractive and more user-friendly. This article describes the new generation of library catalogues available to the public with the hope that it may help institutions in the decision-making process. A shorter version of this article was presented at a CBPQ/ASTED colloquium held in Montréal in May 2008.

Using textometry, a 2023 paper showed that between the programs of populist and non-populist political parties, there was little difference other than an emphasis on the economy in populist programs and a valuation of social equity and ecological intervention in non-populist programs. As an extension of these analyses, this article compares populist programs according to whether they are from the left or the right. In the right-wing programs, it discovers a strong nationalism and grievances against foreigners and immigration. In the programs of the left, it notes an opposition between “workers” and “people”, on the one hand, and “multinationals” and “banks” on the other; it also observes a denunciation of the role of the business community, which is held responsible for problems related to the cost of living and the environment. In the programs of both orientations, it also notes similarities on themes such as education, health, and agriculture.
