School and public libraries have always been natural allies. The nature of their collaboration varies from visits to the library and the collections, to young readers participating in reading groups and critical discussion. With the arrival of the Internet and online information, virtual space and the free circulation of knowledge challenge current practices and forms of collaboration. This study relies on the observations made in one commune and examines the following question: can joint efforts be developed to train readers to use information?

Abstract. — Associations evoked by the word «environment» : an analysis using textual statistics. — The description of representations attributed to the word environment is one of the main objectives of the survey Populations-Espaces de vie- Environnements (populations-life spaces-environments) carried out in 1992 (INED) on a population sample of 5,000 people, representative of the French population. The first stage of this survey consisted in examining the population's representations of the concept of "environment". For this, an analysis was conducted of their spontaneous answers to the question "If I say 'environment', what does this word conjure up for you?". In a second stage, textual statistics methods were applied to these data to record the semantic diversity of this word and to clarify the lexical "worlds" associated with it. Finally, the main structuring features of this corpus were correlated to population characteristics.

Development as freedom: A MENA - CEECs comparative analysis This comparative analysis focuses on the human development deficit and freedom gaps in Middle Eastern and North African countries (MENA). In line with Sen's capability approach, the argument is advanced that development should be seen as an expansion of human freedoms in contrast with narrower views that equate it with a growing GDP or rising personal incomes. The latter, though important to the expansion of freedom, should not lead us to overlook other instrumental factors, such as social and economic opportunities or political and civil liberties. A new original database from the French Ministry of Economy is put to use so as to construct five aggregate indicators for estimating the level of "development as freedom". A multidimensional approach identifies the lag in "development as freedom" in Middle Eastern and North African countries in comparison with central and eastern Europe. It is found that the former have an institutional profile that associates an authoritative, paternalistic state with traditional forms of solidarity.

SummaryThe internet network revolutionizes little by little the practices of the researchers as well from the point of view of their information retrievals as from the point of view of the diffusion of their work. If the opportunity to reach a colossal mass of information very simply is a particularly attractive perspective for every researcher in biology, this study puts in evidence that the discovery of relevant information in the field of biology in this « ocean » turns out relatively difficult, and this in spite of the existence of an increasing number of search tools at the disposal of the Internet users. Furthermore, the results presented suggest that the use of non-specialized search engines and meta-engines seems preferable with that of specific search engines in the field of the biology and with that of non-specialized or specific directories in biology.
