The art and science of econometrics needs an important set of statistical and numerical methods. Some of them are specific to the particular field of econometrics. This paper emphasizes several packages. Choosing among them is a difficult task. Therefore we are giving some guidelines. An other important question regards data banks. We are presenting a specific package specially designed for linking economic data with econometric programs.

This text sets out a concept of learning styles that is more in harmony with the knowledge gained through the constructivist learning approach. The discourse of two learners in two separate learning situations are presented here to show how the concept of learning style, made up of choices and rules of functioning, is related to beliefs. Actions in learning situations are thus seen to be rooted in the self-representations of learners and in their representations of the task to accomplish. The reflection that follows offers a more in-depth study of the social and personal dimensions of learning styles. It is seen that learning styles are not only a series of choices by individual learners, but also a series of constructs which define self and self-functioning in the learning situation.

As part of a learning innovation project initiated by the New Brunswick Ministry of Education, we created and tested four algebra teaching-learning scenarios at the grade 12 level, which touched particularly on the concept of function parameters introduced using a Predict-Observe-Explain strategy and dynamic software a problem solving context. This development-type exploratory research adopts a design approach for an educational product, or the creation of specific learning activities (Loiselle, 2001). Qualitative data were collected from students through a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. On one hand, the real-life context and the visual aspect of a dynamic and interactive investigation using software seems to have made the learning of functions more significant for the student, and provided a chance to see connections between different mathematical representations, making the students more independent in the problem solving process. On the other hand, this change in practice may have led to a breakdown in the didactic contract, which destabilized some of the students, who were looking for more clarification and supervision from the teacher. This innovative practice of complexifying the problem-solving process deserves further study to determine its real impact on student learning and classroom dynamics.

Initially, Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) was designed to support the grounded theory method, from a qualitative, bottom-up (inductive or abductive) and iterative perspective. The market prompted software publishers to integrate quantitative (counting) and top-down (deductive) functionalities from content analysis, such as codebooks and intercoder fidelity. These integrations have made the software versatile, but their ergonomics have become ambiguous, even paradoxical. Today, the addition of artificial intelligence functionalities makes initially silent software talkative. The automation of these functions encourages superficial analysis of large bodies of data, whereas qualitative research advocates in-depth analysis of relevant, circumscribed material. In contrast to versatility, Cassandre is a dedicated software tool, supporting a bottom-up, exclusively qualitative, diary-centered (rather than data-centered) and iterative (rather than sequential and linear) approach. The intersecting history of CAQDAS and Cassandre reveals the (sometimes unforeseen) effects of these software developments on analytical practices.

Free access to scientific literature, acceptance by research and journal communities, Internet publishing and referencing solutions: these are the founding principles of Revues.org, a portal for humanities and social sciences journals created in 1999 as a complement to French institutions of higher education and research. They are also what distinguishes Revues.org in the field of scientific electronic publishing. This article provides a history of this association turned laboratory by foregrounding the issues that have punctuated and continue to guide its development, such as defining electronic publishing and its professions, developing ways for users to become more comfortable using a platform, developing new tools to assist researchers, and inventing an economic model for journals and for the portal.

The Cameroonian government is committed to the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and relating policies in primary, secondary and university education, as shown by the number of awareness seminars organised in recent years and the significant budgets allocated to the various ministries responsible for the development of ICT. Wireless access points are available on university campuses. However, despite this apparent enthusiasm of the authorities, it appears that students' use of ICT does not follow any formal framing and is poorly mastered. In such a context, what link can be made between their use of ICT and their academic training?

Interaction and cooperation inside internet communitiesInteractions between Internet users or network nodes mostly consist of requests. Thus, virtual communities and newsgroup, but also data transmission through Internet networks, rest on systems of bilateral or multilateral requests. This representation of Internet allows us to study the best strategies for the senders of requests. We show that under certain conditions, it is not optimal for the senders to reward the agents who do the requests. Hence free interaction may be a relative efficient model for Internet communities. This model is strenghtened when the senders accept to leave the results of their requests open. This framework helps to better undestand cooperative practices on Internet, like peering agreements among Internet Service Providers or open source software projects.
