The following article describes the perceptions of graduate students in education in the francophone universities of Québec with respect to the criteria used to evaluate information and critically assess scientific literature. Using a questionnaire (N=268) and a series of semi-structured interviews (N=54), we undertook a survey of research students in four universities. The results of our study indicate interesting response rates concerning the four principal aspects: the relevance of the information, the reliability of resources, the author's reputation and the quality of the content.

Vegetarian meals, halal meat, local and organic food origin, modulated prices… The issues associated with school canteens have become issues of political conflict, accompanying the more general politicisation of food issues since the late 1990s. This article examines how school canteens have been politicised, based on two main hypotheses. First, school catering issues have become more visible and conflictual at the national level, in connection with the development of new cleavages in Western European political systems, between identity and cosmopolitanism, on the one hand, and between ecologism and productivism, on the other. Second hypothesis, the wide autonomy and diversity of local actors in the implementation limits the influence of this politicization on school catering policies at the local level. To test these hypotheses, we analyse quantitatively (classification) and qualitatively two corpora of more than 10,000 articles devoted to this subject and distinguish between national and regional arena; we also rely on five case studies in four rural towns, based on interviews and observation material. These data confirm the hypothesis of a national politicisation through increased visibility and conflict, as well as the association with new cleavages, but show the limited and differentiated effects of this national politicisation at the local level.

Tools from corpus linguistics and translation-oriented terminography can usefully integrate a method of analysis aimed at identifying the connotative potential of medical vocabulary. In particular, we will apply these tools to the somatic vocabulary present in specialized and popularized medical texts relating to the field of oncology. In a situation of translation from Italian into French, we will present, as a representative example, the pairs of terms seno/mammella and sein/mamelle which, beyond any obvious cross-language similarities, manifest very different connotations that the translation process must take into account.

Assessing accountability in collaborative governance to identify potential deficits is one of the least discussed issues in the literature. In this study, which aims to bring to light the state of collaborative accountability in the Quebec public service (PS), a content analysis of the reports of the Auditor General of Quebec to the National Assembly from 1988 to 2022 was carried out, using the model of Lee and Ospina (2022, p. 70). Three major results were obtained. The first highlights a governance culture of the Quebec PS characterized by a low use of rewards and sanctions with an accountability process that is much lacking in terms of performance evaluation and communication and sharing of information. The second shows that the Quebec PS, under the effect of the Public Administration Act adopted in 2000, presented more lack of communication and information sharing both internally and with Parliament, but was more performance oriented. The third result from this analysis indicates that the lack of reporting to Parliament is much more related to the failure of the feedback system. These results were discussed and the limitations of the study, noted.

This article examines the evolution of postures and discourses around the creation of a protected natural area located in a coastal zone, a territory physically delimited and occupied by a historical diversity of stakeholders/users, and more specifically at what is at stake in the participatory episodes of a consultation process initiated as part of a development project, the extension of a marine reserve. It proposes a cross-analysis between linguistics and geography, in line with the interdisciplinary perspective prevailing in environmental sciences (Hicks et al. , 2010). Our first approach, based on discourse analysis, is based on a textometric study to identify shared vocabulary and lexical specificities. The results lead us to mobilize the linguistics of enunciation to characterize the enunciative positioning of stakeholder groups, and to describe the different postures adopted during the consultation process.

Transformations of parenthood and conjugality over recent decades have led to a diversification of individuals' family trajectories and have also profoundly changed the family networks of Canadians. These changes will inevitably have repercussions on the provision of care to the elderly in the future. Based on retrospective data from Statistics Canada 2006 General Social Survey on the family, this article uses multiple decrement life tables to examine the conjugal and parental trajectories of Canadians born between 1923 and 1972, in order to bring out differences between birth cohorts and between men and women. It aims to document the magnitude of the changes observed and, in conclusion, to explore the potential consequences these may have for support networks for the older people of tomorrow.

On the basis of experimental microbiological studies performed on different french distribution systems, a model of the dynamics of bacteria and biodegradable dissolved organic carbon (BDOC) in distribution networks was developed (the SANCHO model). The following processes are taken into account in the model: exoenzymatic hydrolysis of dissolved organic matter by bacteria and growth of free and fixed bacteria on the hydrolysis products; bacterial mortality which releases organic matter; reversible adsorption of bacteria and their biological attachment to inner pipe surfaces, chemical consumption of free chlorine and impact of free chlorine on the activity of free and fixed bacteria. The kinetics of these processes were all studied experimentally. The model considers the case of a water body flowing down in successive pipes of decreasing diameters and calculates the spatial variations, at steady state, of BDOC and chlorine concentration, free and fixed biomass. The SANCHO model was validated by the comparison of calculated and experimental data on various distribution systems which work over a large range of conditions. Good agreement between calculated and measured values of chlorine, BDOC, suspended and fixed bacterial biomass was found for the different distribution networks. This model can be used to define the water quality required at the outlet of a given treatment plant in order to avoid problems of bacterial growth within the distribution system fed by this plant.Keywords.
