This study uses a phenomenological approach to gain a better understanding of the effects of unschooling on children (now adults) in Quebec, drawing on in-depth non-directive interviews to gain insight into their educational experience, their families and their views of the world. Some of the information gathered supports the findings of previous studies in respect to self-education, the use of information technologies, the development of interests and participation in support groups; other data suggests limitations in learning to persevere, pursuing complex learning objectives, school integration and assessment. The participants also discussed family conflicts, parental control, neglect and how the experience has affected their views of society, work, the school system and the role of the state in education.

This research project focuses on higher education teachers and the use they make of e-learning platforms. More specifically, the aim of this research is to examine whether the use of e-learning tools is influenced by the disciplines as well as the teaching and learning styles of the teacher. The results of a survey conducted among 192 teachers active in higher education point to a strong transmissive use of platforms and an interactive and incentive use of methods in the classroom. This research leads to further investigation of blended-learning practices that combine both e-learning and classroom activities.

Challenges in the application of hermeneutic phenomenological research with children who are living with a disorder create obstacles to their inclusion in the research. The objective of this article is to determine the methodological implications related to the implementation of such research. Using a methodological review, we identified 13 studies conducted using the hermeneutic phenomenological approach with this population, resulting from a systematic search carried out in fall 2023. After parallel selection and an assessment of the rigour of the studies, a content analysis was performed. It revealed the methodological implications from the recruitment phase all the way to data analysis, particularly related to the creation of bonds of trust and an inclusive communication space. The inclusion of children living with a disorder in these studies involves the implementation of various adapted strategies.

Paul Bouffartigue : Beginner engineers faced with the typical career outline. Their socialization and entrance into professional life. Based essentially on a longitudinal study of young engineers just beginning their working life, the author proposes to interpret their various professional appointments in relation to the characteristics of three different aspects of socialization : social, school and professional. Ambivalence due to the social background, effects from the logic of excelling at school and tension between the need to acquire technical professionality and the career model with its supervisional functions all combine to favour an extension of this phase of exploration and appropriation of what is permittable, represented as the key sequence to professional socialization.

This paper focuses on firms knowledge emission capability in echo to the « absorptive capability » introduced by Cohen and Levinthal (1989). We first point out the main differences between the traditional view of knowledge spillovers and a more modern view, where spillovers are considered as endogenous. Within this second framework, firms have the ability to hold their new knowledge secret during very long spell of time. However, they often decide to disclose widely some parts of their knowledge through patents, scientific publications or conferences. Our aim is first to resume the different motivations of such apparently non-rational behaviour. Then, we focus on a particular explanation : universal knowledge disclosure as a strategy oriented to join innovation networks. Indeed, important technological knowledge usually flows within innovation networks and if outsiders want to have an access to this knowledge, they must enter the network. Thus, in order to do so, they can be induced to reveal widely some of their knowledge to send a signal of their competences to the insiders.

Lemmatisation and Statistics : New Tools for the Diplomatic Critic ? The Case of Louis the German's Pseudo-critical Diplomas - The techniques known as lemmatisation and the statistical treatment of Latin vocabulary have been rarely used to determine the authenticity of medieval charters. This study tests the applicability of these methods by comparing the vocabulary in two groups of edited diplomas attributed to Louis the German. The original documents serve as the point of reference against which to classify the pseudo-originals. I show that the pseudo-originals fall into the following three categories : those which can not be classified by the statistical method ; those in which the vocabulary of the narratio departs from the original ; and those in which the vocabulary of the dispositio departs from the original. The complexity of the process of the writing of diplomas, in which the recipient potentially plays a role, makes it impossible, however, to determine the authenticity of a charter based solely on its vocabulary. This approach is intended, therefore, to supplement a broader interpretative study, particularly of copies, rather than as an instrument with which to detect forgeries.

AbstractIn this paper, we analyze an unrecognized actor of the creative cities: creative collectives. We identify three active layers in the creative cities. Firms – the upperground – absorb knowledge emerging from the creative activities in the city whereas actors from the underground explore and suggest new creative ways. In this context, creative collectives from the middleground play a role of knowledge integration and transfer between the underground and the upperground. Through some empirical examples, we assess the nature and roles of those collectives, and discuss the various relationships they could develop with firms and their milieu.
