Medical books entitled « Trésor » provide a fertile corpus for those interested in the role of editorial networks in transmitting to the Renaissance the knowledge and experience inherited from the past. The reason why they can be considered an editorial product that aims to assemble in small guidebooks the most famous writings of authorities on the subject is because of the principal characteristics of the “Trésors de medicine.” Their value is due to the fame of these theoretical and practical writings, and to the concern that they reach the greatest number of readers. The use of vernacular language, the numerous reading aids, and the moderate cost of these books helped to make them part of the vast effort to popularize knowledge that had its genesis in the development of printing, all the while promising readers exceptional works, “Treasures,” through their titular and prefatory rhetoric.
