This paper presents an interdisciplinary intercultural model that has evolved through a university-based applied theoretical trajectory using anthropological research, training activities, consultation and project-based forms of social intervention. The model described in this analysis has evolved in a dialectical fashion since 1994 and has been used as a framework for intercultural practice in various contexts and programs. Interculturalism as a form of praxis is an ethical and sociopolitical project operating through various discursive registers : utopia, method and process. These different registers share three underlying principles : 1) the principle of equality (in legal and relational terms) ; 2) the principle of difference (respect for diversity and recognition of its contribution) ; 3) positive interactions (unity in diversity and the importance of working toward a common good). After giving some information about the local context in Spain and a discussion of the principal characteristics of the intercultural approach, this text will explore the application of an intercultural approach in the Intercultural Community Intervention Project, which began in 2010 in 17 areas of high diversity in 15 Spanish cities, and in 2014 was expanded to 39 areas in 32 cities.

The Egyptian author Albert Cossery, who wrote in French, provides a raw, timeless and yet devoid of orientalism view of Cairo society which is unique in Arab literature, and has garnered him unanimous appreciation in France. However, the reception of Cossery's recently published works in the United States reveals a transatlantic cultural gap, both in terms of criticism and literary analysis. While the Anglo-Saxon world tends to view the work from a postcolonial and politically contemporary perspective, on the French side a more individual and history-grounded approach prevails, as attested by the interest literary genetics arouses in France. The translation of some passages likely to shock in Cossery's novels thus raises the issue of fidelity to the author's voice, which resonates differently as it is decontextualized and distanced from Cossery's personal history. The American translators have displayed openness to the writer's vision and empathy with his characters; nevertheless, they have carried out some smoothing out of a moral nature in these problematic passages, possibly in an attempt to resolve the tension between the adequacy and social acceptability of the translation as defined by Gideon Toury (1995/2004).

In Quebec's French-language secondary schools, youth originating from South Asia have the highest dropout rate among all immigrant-origin students, whereas in the English sector, their coethnic peers have a more positive academic profile than third-plus-generation students. Using quantitative data, this paper aims to understand the difference in school performance between these two groups. Firstly, we examine their performance through three indicators: school delay, graduation, and dropout rates. Secondly, we contrast their profile through nine characteristics. Finally, we discuss the influence of each group's characteristics on graduation. The results reveal that the difference in performance is largely due to the characteristics of the French-sector students. The English-sector students' success is not significantly related to having English as mother tongue or as language spoken at home.

Public values are generally defined as “judgments” or public preferences that guide the actions and behaviours of public actors. Important work on them describes the existence of constellations of public values (Jorgensen and Bozeman, 2007) with their own hierarchy. However, there is little work to define how these combinations of public values work.A quasi-experiment, conducted with two groups of Moroccan public managers, allows us to highlight, based on two operating dynamics, the articulation of public values within these assemblies.

This article presents partial results from a study on the perseverance barriers and facilitators of university students with a permanent resident status (PRS) who immigrated to Quebec. Data collection took place in six higher education establishments in Quebec with ERP and teachers (professors and lecturers) who responded to an online survey and participated in interviews. Results indicate that the ERP experience an interlocking of acculturation stress and academic stress. This imbrication is illustrated in ERPs' challenges, from admission to transactions with institutional resources, as well as course content, course organization, and learning French and English.

This article explores how 11 Creole-speaking students are socialized for writing in French as a second language. Results show that pupils have some knowledge of the alphabetic code, but that this knowledge is still fragile for a few of them. As far as cognitive clarity in written French is concerned, results demonstrate a larger fluctuation. Students have developed an awareness of the written text, but this still needs to be reinforced. To support these students' language socialization, we believe that literacy programs which take into account their cultural habitus would help them develop stronger skills in French as a second language.

More than five years after the beginning of the Arab Spring, the geopolitical situation in the Middle-East has significantly changed. This paper briefly analyzes Israeli perceptions of the changes in the region over the last several years and provides an overview of the newly emerged security challenges that Israel must cope with, including threats from ISIS, terrorism, war in Syria, and tensions in Lebanon and the Sinai. The Jewish state has always been under threat. However, its enemies have changed and new players have emerged. In light of these shifts, we look at the ways in which the Jewish state might rethink its defense doctrine, but above all, we examine how Israeli authorities and strategists feel about Russia's “arrival” (since its intervention in Syria in fall 2015) and Iran's “return” (following the nuclear agreement signed on July 14, 2015) to the Middle Eastern and international stages.
