Among the collections of illustrated monographs, “Poètes d'aujourd'hui” (Seghers, 1944-2007) stands both as a model and an exception. Its uniqueness in the editorial milieu in which it is developing first lies in the fact that it is directed by poets, but also in the great stability of its original format. However, fifty years after its creation, this rich collection of two hundred and seventy volumes is set aside, before being relaunched in the 2000s under the direction of Alain Veinstein, and then Bruno Doucey. How can one keep the collection's original spirit while adapting it to a new aesthetic, economic, and pedagogic context ? How can one continue Seghers' work in an editorial market that has several times copied his model and is now leaning towards new formats ? These are the questions the new directors had to answer as they guided the collection's rebirth. Rather than creating something entirely new, it was a question of awakening and adapting. The goal of the interview reported here with Bruno Doucey is to shed light on the transformation of “Poètes d'aujourd'hui”'s editorial format, on the evolution it led to in the type of discourse and the audience for these volumes, on the development of the catalog and on the reasons why the collection ended some sixty years after its creation.

AbstractAfter many years of silence, the Algerian War (1954-1962) is presently gaining more and more political importance, thus confronting France with its responsibilities during the fight for sovereignty that once opposed it to Algerian nationalism. During its 8 years, every stage of a « dirty war » was attained : disinformation, propaganda, murder, torture, collective massacres, etc., as one can read in historical and literary works. However, while several authors have been inspired by this historical period, very few have made it the main subject of all their writing. The analysis concentrates on Azzedine Bounemeur – the Algerian author most devoted to the cause of the Algerian war – who, apart from fiction, presents a chronological and highly epic history of Algerian nationalism.

AbstractThe Paediatric Transcultural Clinic of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital is unique in the fact that it is part of a General Paediatric Unit. Therefore, the child's symptoms are often the result of a larger problem affecting the whole family. This clinic aims to provide a complete care by addressing physical, emotional and cultural issues. The clinic's professionals among the most often use the concepts of filiation and affiliation and the authors attempt to explain and illustrate them with two clinical cases. Their analysis raises an important question: how resilient can children be in an immigration context when dealing with issues of filiation and affiliation?

Stereotypes about gender-based mathematical abilities have an impact on different aspects such as students’ expectations or their ability to achieve mathematical learning. Analyses of mathematics textbooks from various countries around the world showed a more or less marked inequality of representations between female and male characters. The objective of this article was to investigate gender representations in mathematics textbooks used in Quebec with the French-speakers. A manual for the first grade of primary school was analyzed: The illustrated characters were identified and classified according to an analysis grid (gender, associated mathematics activity, space on the page, physical appearance, etc.). The results showed a real desire for gender equality in terms of mathematics aspects, but some gender differences persist (example: physical appearance).

The external action of French regional authorities is an old and well-established policy. The Régions, established in 1982, are the youngest French regional authority entities. Upon their creation, they developed ambitious international action, marked by decentralized cooperation development relations. Since 2016, there has been a turning point in internationalization regional policies that are moving from international solidarity to pro-domo interest: priority for economic regional attractiveness, development and influence, shifting intervention towards emerging countries and ceasing relations with regional authorities in developing countries. According to numerous observers, these evolutions may be explained by financial constraints, the generational change in elected representatives and the perceived social requirement for returning to the French regions. It mainly questions the role of the regions as main actors to contribute in meeting the world challenges in the fields of climate, migrations, security, fight against inequality and development.

In his historical poetics, Édouard Glissant highlights the preponderant role played by the stripped migrant in his search for origins from Africa to the Caribbean. In so doing, he praises the latter’s endeavors throughout the adoption and adaptation to his new surroundings, the new world. In this article, the analysis is on the re-presentation of the past lived by the stripped migrant before, during, and after the moment of entanglement, when he started forming a rhizome-identity in comparison and contrast to the single-root identity perpetuated by the Békés. Such an approach brings to the fore the theoretical notion of detour developed by Glissant to defy and redefine the History or rather histories of the Caribbean archipelago that have been purposefully hidden by the “fictionneurs de l’Histoire” [History fiction writers], which makes him an atypical historian who gives a renewed version of the Afro-Caribbean tradition.
