We use the framework set by Prime et al. (2009) to analyze the export studies published between 2007 and 2016 that deal with psychic distance. The review examines four facets of the psychic distance construct: conceptualization, operationalization, measurement and nomological network. We analyze the problems encountered in the reviewed studies and propose appropriate solutions. Finally, we present the friction metaphor as an alternative to the distance metaphor to assess foreignness in export research as well as in international management.

Lise Bissonnette, in making an indirect reference to Lorraine Vaillancourt's letter, and at the same time acknowledging that her engagement with music does not go beyond Mahler, challenges composers by asking whether creators themselves, be they in the contemporary arts or music, are not primarily responsible for the "breaking off" from the public about which they complain.
