Agriculture is the cornerstone of any society. Its importance is essential to offer quality food at lower costs. This is one of the actual challenges facing our society. The logistics chain needs to be reviewed to adapt to the new reality. Organic and local products must be offered in greater quantity and diversity. The province of Quebec benefits from countless resources and advantages to enable significant expansion. However, with its short summer and its harsh winter, we must rethink the cultivation model to adapt it to the lifestyle of the population. Making agriculture more efficient thanks to new technologies is becoming the vision of many farmers and researchers. To offer a duplicable and efficient technological model, we must be able to fully understand the surrounding parameters. Controlling these parameters will make it possible to recreate them and adapt them to different societal lifestyles. Sharing knowledge and collecting data will allow a more innovative vision of these models while respecting traditional methods adapted to the automation engineer and the autonomy of programmable systems.

MT Lab is North America’s first incubator to drive entrepreneurship and innovation in the tourism, cultural, and entertainment industries. This two-sided organization serves the evolving needs of these sectors and supports the incubated organizations that will eventually meet these sectors’ needs. However, this structure creates identity tensions among its many stakeholders. This case study explores the tensions and the paradoxical role of stakeholders in the strategic development of the Montreal-based organization. At the end of this case study, involving a temporal decomposition of three periods, paradoxes emerge: organizational identity is both a structuring and an evolving construct, and by mobilizing strategic ambiguity to compromise with sources of identity ambiguity, organizational actors can also slow down their development.

The objective of this research is to analyze the effects of gender difference and diversification of economic activities on the performance of very small, small, and medium size businesses (VSEs and SMEs) in the Republic of the Congo. This work is based on survey data conducted by the National Institute of Statistics (2017), by way of the census of very small, small and medium businesses and artisans (RTPMEA) in the Congo, and using the tobit model. The results obtained show, on the one hand, that the diversification of activities of VSEs and SMEs managed by men have a low probability of promoting the performance of VSEs and SMEs. On the other hand, the diversification of activities of VSEs and SMEs managed by women are insignificant and cannot have the chance to promote their performance. Thus, in general, the diversification of economical activities has had a negative impact on the performance of VSEs and SMEs in the Republic of Congo, despite the gender difference. To this end, economic policy implications are formulated.

The underrepresentation of women speakers at academic conferences in the gambling studies field is historic and pervasive yet the pressing issue of gender disparity in the field has yet to be adequately acknowledged or addressed. In 2023, an International Forum, hosted by Research And Networking for Gambling Early-career Scholars (RANGES) brought together ten early career researchers in the gambling studies field, all women, from varied research environments and disciplinary backgrounds. The International Forum aimed to answer the question: How can gambling studies conferences improve gender representation and become more inclusive and equitable? The result is this commentary which constitutes a set of recommendations related to gambling studies conferences designed to be implemented broadly as a form of collective action that will (1) contribute to the development of a shared understanding and awareness of the pressing issue of gender disparity; (2) provide actionable pathways for change; and (3) trigger a systemic and comprehensive change in the face of ongoing gender disparity with the goal of creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive research field.

There is growing evidence of the socioeconomic importance of Aboriginal forest enterprises. Aboriginal groups that decide to opt-in to the market economy still face significant challenges. One critical challenge is the matter of harmonizing community members' needs with market requirements. Drawing on a case study in the Essipit Innu First Nation in Canada, this paper examines the successes attained by an Aboriginal community-based enterprise (ACBE) strategy in enhancing sustainable local development. Our results indicate that the community had access to, and expanded, human, natural, social and financial capital. Findings also show that Essipit defines success not only in economic terms, but also through a wider array of goals. This research shows a path towards Aboriginal economic success. It emphasizes the importance of developing a model that is integrated into the community and the local culture.

One of the many drastic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 was a sudden shift to remote learning for post-secondary students. Remote learning is an ongoing practice at many educational institutions, for which the impact on students is yet to be understood. This study aims to build a foundation for that understanding, with a particular focus on addressing the effects on students who were working concurrently with their studies during the pandemic. A survey was conducted, gathering 181 responses from undergraduate computing students attending Mount Royal University. The survey queried the students’ experience with work-school balance during the pandemic, their feelings about online classes, the perceived positive and negative aspects of learning online, and whether they would choose online classes in the future in the absence of any pandemic-related concerns. The results show a clear perception of increased flexibility (88%) coupled with an increase in the students’ ability to manage their time (61%). Given that 74% of respondents report that online classes are more convenient than in-person classes while only 22% report a negative impact on their performance, this study concludes that online learning opportunities may correlate with an easing of stress on post-secondary students without significantly impacting academic performance for certain personality types. However, other students report negative experiences with respect to their mental health.

This study investigates the effect of the annual 'No-Smoking Day' on the stock performance of British American Tobacco (BATS) and Imperial Brands (IMB) from 1997 to 2023. Our findings reveal a significant negative impact of No-Smoking Wednesdays on BATS, with a moderate but statistically significant effect on IMB. To enhance robustness, we also perform a panel data analysis, which underscores the consistent negative effect of No-Smoking Day on the tobacco sector as a whole. These results suggest that No-Smoking Day generates a calendar-based effect on stock prices, challenging the Efficient Market Hypothesis. Beyond the behavioral effects tied to the anti-smoking campaign, this study introduces a novel perspective by linking investor behavior with neurological factors, particularly Nicotine Withdrawal Syndrome (NWS). NWS, characterized by irritability, anxiety, and mood disturbances, may influence investor sentiment, even among smokers who do not intend to quit. These withdrawal symptoms could induce stress and emotional responses, thereby affecting investor behavior and contributing to negative returns. Our findings align with prior behavioral studies and highlight the role of both psychological and neurobiological factors in shaping market dynamics. Future research should examine the combined effects of anti-smoking campaigns and NWS on investor behavior and market outcomes. Additionally, the varying statistical significance across firms suggests that the diversification of tobacco companies into non-traditional products warrants further investigation.
