In 2014, the French magazine Closer rose a scandal by publishing pictures of French President François Hollande, in the backseat of a scooter on his way to secretly join his mistress. This episode shows the extent of the “peopolization” of the French political life, namely, the mediatization of politicians ‘private life, weither they are willing to do so or not. Revealing strategic sides of their personal lives allows politicians to stage virtues that can legitimize their aspiration to rule while avoiding talking about the political stakes. This « glaucous propaganda » brings its own antidote. Because it tests the claimed virtue, the private life of politicians are given special attention. The scandalous peopolization of the «closergate» is akin to a form of symbolic resistance that invalidates this type of propaganda based on the display of private virtues.

Learning support services, categorized into academic and non-academic support, have been demonstrated to positively influence student development. However, the distinct mechanisms by which academic and non-academic support services impact academic performance remain underexplored in China. This study seeks to provide comprehensive insights into these mechanisms. A survey was conducted with a sample of 1,234 students to gather data on learning support services, student engagement, and learning performance. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to analyze the conceptual model derived from the survey data. Results revealed that student engagement played a partial mediating role between academic support services and learning performance, while it played a complete mediating role between non-academic support services and learning performance. Furthermore, the analysis of standardized coefficient values reveals that academic support services have a lesser impact on student engagement and learning performance compared to the influence of non-academic support services on these same outcomes. It is suggested that distance education institutions need to pay more attention to non-academic support services and optimize resource allocation to achieve more efficient and rational resource distribution. As numerous traditional face-to-face educational institutions in China expand into online education, they encounter challenges due to isolation between teachers and students. Consequently, the concept of learning support services in distance education has become a significant concern. The findings of this study could provide valuable insights for these institutions.

Being interested in socioecological issues, whether global or local, involves considering the different aspects of a territory; which implies adopting an interdisciplinary approach. It is with this interdisciplinary perspective that the story of the socio-ecological transition in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean (Quebec) is presented using a biographical approach. Accounts of actors, with the contribution of a consistent press review, allow us to observe this narrative. The latter is expressed by themes related to hope and anxiety, the need to adapt, the consideration of elements for quality of life such as the landscape, social ties, as well as the desire to continue to realize projects in a social and solidarity economy. Thus, actors who were apparently isolated initially, but who have distinguished themselves through social ecology practices where interactions are essential, can contribute to the transformation of the territory.

The problem of school segregation has garnered considerable attention due to its adverse effects on learning opportunities and outcomes throughout the history of mass education, and increasingly in the marketized and privatized education landscapes worldwide. In this introductory article to the special issue of the International Journal of Education Policy & Leadership (IJEPL), “The Rise of Education Marketization and the Enduring Enigma of School Segregation,” we provide a brief overview of the articles included in this issue, as well as four major aspects of school segregation in the marketization of education. In doing so, we engage with existing theories of school segregation while marketization of education and school segregation.

The term ‘governance' is popular but imprecise. It has at least six uses, referring to : the minimal state ; corporate governance : the new public management ; ‘good governance' ; socio-cybernetic systems : and self-organizing networks. I stipulate that governance refers to ‘self-organizing, interorganizational networks' and argue these networks complement markets and hierarchies as governing structures for authoritatively allocating resources and exercising control and co-ordination. I defend this definition, arguing that it throws new light on recent changes in British government, most notably : hollowing out the state, the new public management, and intergovernmental management. 1 conclude that networks are now a pervasive feature of service delivery in Britain ; that such networks are characterized by trust and mutual adjustment and undermine management reforms rooted in competition ; and that they are a challenge to governability because they become autonomous and resist central guidance.

The potential of innovative learning technologies and digitalization is a key factor in the progressive development of the academic space within the context of educational environment integration. This article aims to study the potential of innovative learning technologies in the context of globalization and the digitalization of education, based on successful European experiences. It also pays special attention to immersive digital media that involve virtual and mixed-reality possibilities. To achieve these goals, a combined approach was applied, including the analysis of existing case studies and the formation of conclusions based on secondary data analysis. This research suggests ways to integrate immersive-learning tools into practice-oriented learning. These types of tools contribute to improving the processes of learning by students, allowing them to visualize complex and abstract definitions, motivate active participation in the learning process, develop creativity and practical skills of problem-based thinking, and provide realistic experiences of solving educational tasks in practice. This article substantiates that these innovations successfully used in developed countries of the European community will allow for the effective development of the national educational system in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. This article establishes the need to upgrade the existing educational development strategy to delineate powers between different management institutions, create a competitive environment in the educational sector, and expand opportunities for financing state-of-the-art projects in this area. The prospects for educational development are focused on the potential of immersive learning technologies, practice-oriented education, and interactive communication tools for competence-based learning.

This paper engages with issues of representation, voice, and presence/absence in feminist theorizing in the context of increasingly neo-liberal sites of higher education. Focusing on the dynamics of a largely racially homogenous student body, the analysis seeks to conceptualize how we may foster self-reflexivity in our practices when encouraging students to engage ethically with “difference.”

This article presents a thematic analysis of gender in Canadian print media portrayals of female delinquency, 1900-1979. Girls’ wrongdoing has historically been treated as unnatural and requiring further explanation. The main thrust of media representations of delinquent girls centres on these girls’ (perceived) promiscuity and the threat it poses to the hegemonic order.
