The increasing accessibility of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies offers significant potential for high-fidelity educational simulations. However, current immersive learning tools often lack realistic haptic feedback, which is crucial for developing appreciative understanding in fields like nursing. When attempting gamification, there is a temptation to apply novel technology without deeply considering how the haptic and interactive design meets the learning goals of the instruction. This project addresses the gap in tactile simulation for nurse practitioner education, specifically focusing on thyroid and lymph node palpation. The proposed solution aims to enhance psychomotor skills, diagnostic reasoning, and self-efficacy by providing accessible, realistic tactile experiences outside traditional lab settings.

Artificial intelligence (AI) transforms the ethical and moral subjectivity of teachers, positioning them to navigate the complex convergence of technological advancement, intellectual autonomy, and teacher identity. The purpose of this paper is to offer a conceptual model for how teachers’ identities are constituted through AI prompt engineering. Poststructuralist theories are used to examine how the integration of AI in education reshapes the constitution of teachers' identities, drawing from Michel Foucaut’s concepts of discourse theory, power/knowledge, governmentality, subjectivities, and technologies of the self. Focusing on three of Foucault’s specific technologies of the self—the confessional, the panopticon, and the examination—the paper examines how AI prompt engineering can be considered as a site of governmentality. A conceptual model, “teacher subjectivities constituted through artificial intelligence” (TSCAI) is suggested to illustrate the relationships among the theoretical concepts in a visual format. Reflective questions are posed for teachers to investigate how the model applies to their AI prompt engineering. Implications for practice and research of the TSCAI model are discussed, followed by a recognition of the limitations of the model. The paper concludes with suggestions for using the model in teacher-education contexts and encourages teachers to acknowledge their own identities while working with AI.

Both Claude Cahun and Frida Kahlo were affiliated with the Surrealist movement in the 1930s for political and professional ends. In their respective bodies of self-portraiture, they mirrored or doubled their own images and stretched the boundaries of gender and sexual representation in order to challenge heteronormative conceptions of identity.

Although inclusion and welcoming have been at the heart of French librarians' concerns for many years, the actions undertaken seem to have reached their limits. The participation of participants remains the business of informed people, the inclusion of minorities does not go as far as rethinking the modes of cultural transmission, and the ways to listen to the inhabitants are often restricted to design thinking. And if the current approach to welcoming ideas, stories and people was not sufficient to meet our expectations for inclusion and diversity? Through a theoretical study of concepts and notions, we study the relevance of the idea of hospitality, and its duality (hospitality to those who are in needs and to the foreigners) to renew the approach of welcoming in libraries. Our paper tends to show the paths that this notion opens up in terms of knowledge legitimization, community literacy and documentary hospitality. Thus, we hope to better identify the critical factors of inclusive library policies and subsequently propose directions for the renewal of welcoming practices in libraries.

Several social economy and community action organizations are experiencing executive management transitions. Nonprofit executives are the interface between a paid staff and a volunteer board of directors. This particularity is not without effect on the executives’ organizational socialization, which is itself linked to their retention and performance. Therefore, it is relevant to ask how do organizational contexts and board of directors’ practices influence executives’ socialization experience? To address this question, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 10 executives of workplace integration nonprofits. Our results highlight the importance of practices associated with transparency and board–executive management dialogue from the earliest stage to facilitate the continuation of the socialization trajectory and reveal the emergence of paradoxical dynamics (virtuous/vicious circles).

This article provides the results of a research project on the circular economy as implemented by individuals, through the consumption of second-hand objects. It falls within the sociology of sustainable consumption and is based on a social practices approach. The analysis of 19 interviews conducted with people who acquire and use second-hand objects revealed the complexity and richness of this set of practices, in terms of the skills involved and their material aspect, and regarding the meaning attached to the objects and the act of acquiring, using, and disposing them. On the other hand, the results provided clearly show that, as things stand, the acquisition of used objects is a hobby or a passion that requires the development of specific skills and the significant display of temporal, financial, cultural, and social resources, much more than a set of easily generalizable practices. Scaling up this form of circular consumption will require the development of infrastructures that will enable to give objects a real second life.

It took more than ten years of feminist advocacy for the Canadian government to adopt the National Action Plan (NAP) to End Gender-Based Violence (GBV) on November 9, 2022. This study is among the first to trace the development of and critique the NAP. Specifically, I interrogate how well is the NAP grounded in an intersectional approach. Using the adjusted Intersectionality-Based Policy Analysis (IBPA) and qualitative content analysis as research methods, I argue that the recently adopted NAP is premised on a deflated definition of intersectionality and lacks attention to the role of existing policies in reproducing social inequalities. The NAP fails to centre the voices of those most affected and to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of systemic causes and effects of GBV resulting in different intersectional needs of various at-risk groups. As a consequence, the NAP provides symbolically intersectional solutions that are unlikely to be effective in addressing GBV. In addition, the NAP relies on non-intersectional data for progress assessment, and it is without built-in mechanisms for meaningful engagement of the most affected groups. With such a design, the current NAP will not be able to achieve the stated vision of a Canada free from GBV.

Over recent years, the labour shortage in various economic sectors in New Brunswick has led many businesses in the province, as in the rest of Canada, to seek international workers. However, given New Brunswick's demographic data regarding its aging population, the low proportion of immigrants relative to the province's total population, and its low five-year immigrant retention rate, it is important to examine the factors that may lead these newcomers to leave New Brunswick. If nothing is done in this regard, there is a significant risk that New Brunswick will become merely a transit point for many immigrants. It is in this context that this article is fundamentally intended to understand these factors from the perspectives of managers and employees working in immigrant settlement agencies in the francophone part of New Brunswick. This study reveals three main factors that may explain the low retention rate of newcomers in this province. It highlights the need to focus not only on their economic integration but also on their social integration, particularly through the acquisition of cultural skills, within a broader perspective.
