AbstractThis paper examines the evolution of the Canadian financial system from its embryonic form in New France to its modern contours in the first half of the 19th century. It is argued that the financial sub-system as a social technology experienced a mutation at the turn of the 19th century, as the result of unintended consequence of a combination of external, internal, and policy forces.

SummaryThis article reports on thé contribution of women to the study of bureaucratic organizations, both private and public. Women's work, either as employees in organizations or as researchers in this area, has been traditionally invisible However, in the last few years, women have undertaken important research work on organizations, in perspectives which are often original and occasionally subversive. They have been principally concerned with questions relating to power in organizations, relations between public bureaucracies and the recipients of their services, as well as with modes of organization which offer alternatives to present forms of management. The authors review and analyze these studies and attempt to isolate their consequences at the present time and in the future.

This article presents the problematic relationship between local authorities and amateur sports clubs, in particular the influence of the former on the organization of the latter. Our research shows that the local authority sometimes exerts undue hardship on these clubs, for example in their will of regrouping, and that this interference extends from granting to infrastructure development, through various aids provided for in decentralization laws. An examination of the situation of the athletics clubs of the metropolis of Lyon attests that, under the evolution of the political-socio-economic environment, the amateur sports club has lost its organizational autonomy and is now threatened with survival.
