Despite the development of the state and of administrative statistics in the 19th century, there are no population registers quantifying arrivals and departures in communes in France, which makes studying population mobility especially difficult. This article uses another means of measuring mobility in a particular area in the19th century, working from a primary source which has no apparent connection with the issue of migration : the register of transfers of property on death, which records the value and composition of the estates of deceased persons. This source lists the place of residence of heirs on the death of their relative, and so enables geographical mobility between one generation and the next to be analysed, taking into account a certain number of parameters such as the size of the sibling group, sex and level of wealth of the individuals etc. Based on a rural sample in Brittany, the article presents the source and its potential, shows the development and the geography of the migrations of farmers' children, and the role of particular family configurations, in particular the size of the sibling group, in understanding emigration from a rural area.

On January 15, 1790, the French National Assembly decreed that the old provinces were to be carved up into 85 departements. But the new districts were soon to be criticized both by those who contested any idea of uniformity and those who claimed the new set up was irrational. There were heated arguments in 1851 about a new division, the region, which is still a hot issue. The word came from geography, then geographers became involved. To define the boundaries of new districts and to make sure these corresponded to permanent features of landscape, several elements were selected, among them rural housing. Geographers had to face the folk arts experts and architects. According to the evolution of architecture, geography, folk studies, the approach to the issue varied from purely scientifk to ideological, but it was never quite proved that housing could help define both an area and its people.

This study of the artistic experience in primary school focuses on collecting pupils' thoughts about their discovery of works of art. Two classroom situations during which pupils are encouraged to express themselves have been analysed, using two distinct techniques, addressing the common notion of point of view. The practices observed show a change in the paradigm of teaching the arts, which focuses less on the acquisition of expert skills or the production of completed works than on artistic experience as it is experienced and its consequences as regards the development of transversal competences as well as the development of the person. Various strategies to stimulate the pupils seek the emergence of meaning through introspection or intersubjective confrontation. They are investigated for their wealth as well as their limits.

Descriptions of seaside resorts often talk about preserved natural environment, which the tourists look for. However, nature has two sides in this type of places: first of all, a green setting, which must bring out the seaside resort; then an ideal, which concealed a reduction of natural spaces and power stakes. Since the 18th century, tourists and nature, in multiple facets (parcelle of land, area, town), have complex links, to the delight of this nature at its control, until its protection. The local actors used its new display and representation: they control the nature and, by this way, the future development of the seaside resort. Nature is not the object of disinterestedness is not with which the tourist speech usually associates it.
