At a time when voter turnout is apparently declining, many are wondering what actions to take to curb the political alienation and rise of cynicism among younger generations. In this context, the school seems to be an important nerve centre for action. Although Quebec schools do not specifically offer political education, we believe that some knowledge, subject-specific skills, cross-curricular competencies and general areas of training are likely to contribute to the formation of political thought. But what exactly do we mean by «political thought»? The purpose of this article is to propose a construction of this concept, notably by situating it and distinguishing it from other central concepts of human sciences. We therefore believe that this article will provide a theoretical foundation for a broader research project on citizens' «political competence», which adds to political thought the tendency to take an interest in and participate in public life.

The word « politique » takes on a variety of meanings in business and industrial relations, the extent of which is more considerable in Southern Europe than in North America. This is a constant source of problems for the neo-latin countries whose cultural, ideological and religious background, as well as their union and business history, are very different from those of countries of anglo-saxon or rather germanic origins.Instead of benefiting from a vocabulary adapted remarkably to this field, they possess one single noun and one single adjective with identical spelling: "politica" or in French « politique ». As a case in point, the English language has three distinct nouns:politics, policy andpolity; as well as two different adjectives:politic and political). As a result, it is possible to speak of a « politique organisationnelle » and of a « politique générale de l'entreprise » and the various subordinate « politiques » com-posing it. In our particular field, there are « politiques de personnel » and « politiques du travail » (in other words, aspects « politiques » of work organization as well as working conditions). There are other applications as well within the corporation, such as the organizational aspect of employee representation — the case of the « comité d'entreprise » in France — a body responsible for cultural activities, including « culture politique ». (The latter constituting occasionally, the pretext for partisan propaganda). There is also the case of unions supposedly « politisées », largely because of their closed, but not necessarily organic links with political parties, for which they often act as transmission belts. Finally, there are political parties, organized as such in the workplace, and whose activities contradict from time to time the very unions which are closest to their point of view. The resulting interaction creates tensions, as each attempts to penetrate the area of « décisions politiques » of industrial management. We also speak of « grèves politiques » which take different forms in different countries. All those questions require great discretion in the use of vocabulary, combined with more diversified knowledge in the very large area of industrial relations, including: organizational theory, business administration, labour and business history, political science and the dynamics of social interaction.

ABSTRACTAfter fifteen years of research and publication on the theme of Quebec "americaness", and considering comments surrounding such reflections which challenge the politico-cultural identity of Quebec, a brief assessment seems warranted. The assessment will consist of a clarification of the principal obstacles confronted when thinking about Quebec's "americaness", obstacles still present in the Quebec "psyche". In short, this assessment proposes some reasons for thinking about this "americaness".

In recent years, two patterns have been developed in the imperfect and partial dialogue between political science and feminist epistemologies. Firstly, some research focus on an institutional approach, by considering women's political participation based on their position in institutions and the activities they are engaged in; secondly, some scholars are developing a more comprehensive analysis of women's activism that goes beyond institutions and explores the margins. This perspective is the most heuristic approach when trying to grasp the perimeter of gender-political interactions in African societies since the advent of the institutions that emerged from colonial modernity. This paper analyses the African field from this perspective, using the Cameroonian case as a starting point. It aims to describe the framework of women's political participation by shifting the focus from institutions to mobilizations. This approach, which highlights the various forms of women's political action, shows how they go beyond the framework of subordination, and leads to a critical reassessment of categories such as citizenship and political participation.

From the study of two citizen committees, in France and in Quebec, our analysis brings out the difference between communautary and associative movements, the difference being significant of a particular relationship to politics.
