AbstractLukashism is a term used by the opponents of the Belarusian régime to condemn the individual roots of the political model established by president Lukashenka since his first election in 1994. The concept of authoritarian populism used in the article seeks to break with an analysis centered on the president's personnality and an approach which explains the specificity of the Belarusian political and social organization by pointing out the invariable cultural basis of the Belarusian people. The article shows how the power mechanisms related to the 1990's Belarusian politics are based on populism as a manner to legitimize authoritarian discourses and practices. The authoritarian populism in Belarus is analyzed according to three perspectives: the charismatic domination in its relationship with the cult of personnality during the Soviet time; the weakening of the institutionnal and political forms of mediation; and the personnalization of the political activity through the individualization of power positions and the supremacy of decrees.

Research Framework: Is elective political commitment compatible with maintaining a family life? What role does private relationships play on the careers of elected politicians? Objectives: The aim of this study is to examine the role played by the family in the political careers of elected representatives, both in the processes of engagement and disengagement, and in the course of political careers.Methodology: This article presents five portraits, or five political trajectories (analysed using the interactionist sociology concept of career), which illustrate in different ways the role played by the family in the political involvement of elected representatives, in their decision to withdraw from political life, and in their ‘lives after’ elective politics. Results: Firstly, the family can provide support for the elected official by encouraging the commitment and retention of political players: support in domestic work so that the elected official can commit fully to politics, moral support, support in the political work itself. The family space is a enclosed place where it is possible to recharge one’s batteries and express one’s emotions. The family can also play a role in the doubts and questioning of the commitment, or even in the decision to withdraw from political life. For example, a biographical event can act as a “wake-up call” for the elected representative on the urgent need to rebalance their social time. The feeling of being too absent for family and friends and/or the desire to spend more time with their loved ones can motivate their withdrawals from political life. Conclusions: However, these factors do not count in the same way depending on gender, the age of the elected representative, the age of their children, whether or not they are in a relationship, their social background and the culture of their political party. Finally, the increase in withdrawals linked to family constraints bears witness to a process of normalization in the political profession.Contribution: The family is undoubtedly a source of support when entering politics and during a political career. It weighs in the re-evaluation of the rewards of commitment and plays a role in decisions to continue involvement as well as in choices to withdraw from political life.

This article explains the results of an empirical survey carried out, in 1999, on 11th legislature french deputies (those elected in may-june 1997). What do they think about sexual discriminations in politics, antifeminism inside Parliament, private cost of political involvment, and about the hypothesis of a renewal by women? So are the main issues raised by this survey. Two conclusions could be drawn: 1) in politics as in economic life, inequalities between sexes lie in private life. 2) on left wing, men are very concerned by feminism, suggesting the movement for la parité succeeded in giving them bad guilty.
