AbstractThe Paediatric Transcultural Clinic of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital is unique in the fact that it is part of a General Paediatric Unit. Therefore, the child's symptoms are often the result of a larger problem affecting the whole family. This clinic aims to provide a complete care by addressing physical, emotional and cultural issues. The clinic's professionals among the most often use the concepts of filiation and affiliation and the authors attempt to explain and illustrate them with two clinical cases. Their analysis raises an important question: how resilient can children be in an immigration context when dealing with issues of filiation and affiliation?

This article proposes to show the impasses of the ideology of gender identity. By drawing on the philosophy of language and Husserlian phenomenology, it is first a question of showing that this ideology creates confusion in relation to the way in which we intersubjectively designate the common world through the words we use. It is also to argue that by getting people to buy into their Newspeak, this ideology alters our common understanding of the words ‘woman' and ‘man' and undermines women's sexo-specific rights. By referring, among others, to the philosophers Kathleen Stock and Sylviane Agacinski, the subject emphasizes the primacy of the body in relation to social norms. Finally, the article aims to make the reader aware of abuses such as medicalization (affecting minors) based on a subjective identity as well as an attack on the freedom of expression of people criticizing this ideology.

The aim of our article is to identify what, in the thinking of the libertarian and egalitarian philosopher Ruwen Ogien, enables us to unmask and interrogate the latent paternalism that still persists in the practices of healthcare professionals. Although recent advances in models of care have made more room for the voice of those being cared for and for their free self-determination, they have not put an end to paternalism in healthcare. We present here the various key points of Ogien's argument aimed at criticising paternalism in healthcare, in order to be aware of the latent paternalism and recognize that it gives rise to epistemic and social injustices that must be reversed.

The neighbourhoods in which children grow up may expose them to risk and protective factors that can influence their development and well-being, although the underlying mechanisms and processes need to be better understood. This study documented the perspectives of local stakeholders in four Quebec City neighbourhoods (Quebec, Canada) on community-level environmental factors that may influence the development of young children and the well-being of their families. Five categories of community-level factors that may be related to early childhood development and family well-being were explored: 1) physical environment; 2) social environment; 3) socio-economic factors; 4) access and quality of services; and 5) governance. Using a multi-site ethnographic approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 local stakeholders involved with children 0-5 years old and their families. Their perspectives on the above mentioned factors were qualitatively analyzed. For each neighborhood, strengths and challenges were identified in relation to child and family well-being. Stakeholders' perspectives suggest that factors were interrelated, and that, although there were similarities among the neighbourhoods, they also had particularities, including a sense of belonging and civic engagement in the neighbourhood where the developmental indicators of children at school entry was the highest among the studied neighbourhoods. Finally, preliminary avenues for action that can promote child and family well-being are proposed based on the perspectives of the stakeholders.
