Thirty-one teachers responded to an online questionnaire about their distance teaching practices between March 2020 and June 2021. We wanted to identify their level of integration of information and communication technologies (ICT), their motivation to teach at distance, and the determinants of their pedagogical choices. The circumstances led most of them to become familiar with ICT, to explore its basic functions and, to a lesser extent, to appropriate more complex ones. The analyses suggest the existence of two groups, with a major discriminating element concerning the representation of history teaching.

According to the spirit of the international conferences on Education for All, the concept of "collaboration between educational actors" remains a battle horse for the signatory countries to implement. The Democratic Republic of Congo, as a member, is doing its best to implement them. However, the ineffectiveness of its application in schools is holding back the achievement of the objective of eliminating gender disparities in secondary education in Haut-Uélé Province. The state acts as the main actor and designer; the school serves as a transmission belt; parents act as quasi-passive receivers. Based on a historical analysis of the involvement of parents in school management and a reading of the relevant national strategies, this paper aims to give an account of the difficulties of defining roles in the implementation of national strategies to promote the enrolment of girls in the said province. The study of the environment, the definition of roles, and respectful dialogue are the indispensable ways to materialise objective 5.

Supported by a framework that adopts the notion of professionalization from a tridimensional perspective (competencies, identity, and culture), this qualitative research sought to better understand faculty conceptions of student professionalization in the context of pre-service training in university health programs. The results show that the planned learning trajectories are part of a work / training system and are marked by professionalizing modalities focused on action and reflection. According to the teachers’ conceptions, simulation and problem-based learning situations contribute to the development of skills, the portfolio to identity construction, and discussions on the appropriation of the professional culture.

Management in the field of sociocultural community development and social intervention distinguishes itself widely from that of more hierarchical environments characterized by other personal convictions and other forms of commitment. This article proposes a singular lighting on the realities of these functions in social related jobs based on the data of a national survey (INSEE, Employment 2011) on these occupations (sociocultural community developmers, specialized educators, etc.) as well as on a series of interviews with managers who work in sociocultural community development (community centers, Youth’s services, etc.) or more widely in social intervention. The author admits after examination that supervision keeps a part of mystery, partially hidden by a smoke screen because of the complexity of this multifaceted work.

For many elderly people, participating in society is increasingly less obvious and less attained in old age. Sociocultural community developers, who work with the elderly, face therefore the challenge to contribute to maintaining and promoting the participation of older people in activities, in projects and in society. In this paper, we take a sample of students of a 1st cycle degree on sociocultural community development and analyse the strategies and practices reported by them to promote participation among the elderly population. A content analysis of 22 students’ internship reports was conducted; some students also answered a questionnaire or an interview. The data collected allow us to identify 11 strategies of promoting the participation of older people and to classify the types of participation described. These data also enable a discussion about representations of participation within the sociocultural community development.

Immigrant families and their children experience isolation after migration to Canada. Inadequate income, unemployment, and underemployment have all been identified as primary challenges to the mental health of immigrant families. This study qualitatively explored the perceptions of six Middle Eastern immigrant caregivers regarding their children’s post-migration mental health. The research was situated in the constructivist paradigm, and qualitative descriptive design was used to explore participant experiences. Interviews were conducted in English with three Farsi-speaking and three Arabic-speaking caregivers. Reflexive thematic analysis was performed. Three themes were developed: (a) parents feel their children are isolated and lonely; (b) caregivers’ limited access to resources impacts their children’s mental health; and (c) community connections enhance families’ mental health. Findings suggest children’s experiences with family separation and exposure to racism contributed to children’s loneliness. Children’s isolation was exacerbated by caregivers’ limited access to resources to support their children’s transition into Canada. Caregivers identified social support as an asset to their families’ mental health. This research highlights the importance of culturally responsive health, employment, and education policies, together with programs to provide resources for immigrant families to support their children’s mental health after migration.

ABSTRACTThis paper argues that unions in contemporary society are too varied and too fluid to be studied using the standard demographic approaches and tools for the study of marriage and the family. Emphasis on process, rather than on status and membership in a category, would give greater recognition to the fact that states such as marriage or cohabitation need to be seen as part of over-lapping life-course sequences. The meaning of a given union depends in pairt on what has preceded and what follows in the sequence. Attention to process also requires greater attention to the individual and joint decision making that underlies movement along well-defined demographic statuses. In defining and studying sexual unions, greater use needs to be made of modern quantitative classification techniques, including cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling, and the logic of fuzzy sets as well. Methods of qualitative analysis are particularly relevant for the study of process and meaning. The greatest progress will come from a conscious blending of quantitative and qualitative models.

The role of religiosity and gender in shaping fertility decisions has been the subject of many studies in recent years. This literature has highlighted an interesting conundrum, however. While religiosity has a positive effect on fertility, partly through the promotion of traditional gender roles, gender equality has been found to have a positive – rather than negative – impact on fertility. We address this ambiguity in the effect of religiosity and gender roles by examining their specific effects on fertility intention and realization. We do so by using data from the first and second wave of the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) and construct separate logistic regression models for five European countries (Austria, Bulgaria, France, Georgia and Russia). We construct models on the influence of religiosity, gender attitudes and the gender distribution of household tasks on the intention to have a(nother) child as well as the realization of positive (plan to have a child) and negative fertility (plan to not have a child) intentions. Our findings suggest that, regardless of the country context, religiosity and gender roles appear to have an independent impact on fertility intentions and their realization.
