The high prevalence of personality disorders, along with their substantial functional impact, are important societal issues, which must be addressed by mental health services. Many treatments have shown significant benefits and have contributed to alleviate the difficulties tied to these disorders. Mentalization-based therapy (MBT), which is constituted of a group therapy modality, is an evidence-based treatment of borderline personality disorder. The mentalization-based group therapy (MBT-G) modality raises many challenges for the psychotherapists. The effectiveness of the group intervention lies, according to the authors, in the capacity to support the mentalizing stance, to stimulate group cohesion, and allows the experience of a healthy and healing process of reappropriation of conflictual situations, situations which, in their opinion, are underutilized in this type of therapeutic process. This article focuses on the interventions that foster a mentalizing attitude. Specifically, we discuss how to focus on the “here and now,” how to identify and resolve conflictual situations and how to enhance metacognitions and, hence, group cohesion, while aiming to bonify the therapeutic process.

This review assesses whether it is possible to build a strong therapeutic alliance (TA) during an individual psychological intervention administered by videoconference for the anxiety disorders spectrum. Ten studies were identified. Interventions were delivered by videoconference or through the Skype communication software. Results indicate that a good quality TA can emerge during telepsychotherapy for disorders of the anxiety spectrum. However, more studies need to be conducted to provide additional empirical support to this question. A better understanding of conditions promoting the establishment of a therapeutic relationship despite the distance also needs to be targeted to guide health professionals in a judicious use of this form of innovative intervention.

Group psychotherapy theories have emerged from social problems of different periods and a great number of group theories and practices have unfolded from that. When combined with individual therapy, benefits are undeniable.  Supported by an experience of seven years with clients who were treated with a combination of group and individual psychotherapy, the authors want to illustrate the optimal benefits that clients can get by being in conjoint individual and group therapy. Group psychotherapy promotes personal liberation as well as social skills and responsibility. The theoretical frame of reference is basically existential/humanistic, supported by recent discoveries of the affective neurosciences.

Child sexual abuse can be related to a host of negative outcomes, even more so when multiple forms of victimization accumulate into children's life. Research has provided insight into the influence of proximal and distal factors that may facilitate or hamper victims' recovery in youths. Among such factors, the service trajectory of victims has been explored to a lesser extent. In relation to child sexual abuse, the multidisciplinary coordination of law enforcement, legal, psychological, or social support services within the service trajectory poses its share of challenges. In the United States and later in Quebec, Child and Youth Advocacy Centres (CYAC) were implemented as a model that could facilitate coordination, provide centralized services under one roof and an intervention context that is trauma informed. Yet, few studies have explored the contribution of such centralized services. This article examines the influence of factors that may contribute to the recovery of children by documenting the centralization of services over a ten-year period within the trajectory of the first Child Advocacy Centre implemented in the province of Quebec. Results revealed that the number of centralized services received under one roof is not a factor associated with the recovery of victims following psychotherapy. However, within a structure where services are centralized (ex.: CYAC), results show that the implication of child protection services at the time of the initial assessment and the number of counseling sessions offered to the parents are elements of the service trajectory that are related to lower scores of psychological distress after psychotherapy.
