This article synthesizes knowledge about the communication difficulties between psychosocial professionals and people affected by family violence and abuse. Data used in this paper stem from a systematic survey of the related scientific and clinical literature on secrecy (and secrets) surrounding this type of violence and abuse. It emerges from this survey that secrecy (and secrets) relating to family violence or abuse complicates the communication process. On the one hand, the professional collides with the “family secret”, to use a fixed expression in this literature, and on the other hand, he has to manage the problems raised by the social representation of this violence.

Learning styles are shown here to be based, at least in part, on parental messages which, by shaping children’s personalities, pave the way towards different ways of learning. These messages may have a positive or a negative influence on learning. To mitigate negative influences, two approaches are proposed, one psychological and the other educational. Concrete examples of interventions, based on the knowledge of learning styles and their underlying cognitive processes, show how teachers can bring about changes in ways of learning. The article also stresses the importance of taking account of the affective component of personality in such a process of change.

The most appropriate activities in education are those in which children and young adults teach themselves. Pre-schoolers learns to speak their first language with astonishing rapidity. Why then do they have so much difficulty learning to write that same language at school? The same situation holds for all subjects -- educators have observed that it is difficult to get content across to students. What does one modern theory, constructivism, have to say about this situation? It teaches us that humans organize, classify and structure new material on the basis of their previous knowledge. Children and students will find it much easier to learn in this era of space travel, a time during which the educational environment has been considerably enriched. And this is all the more true now that a great amount of multimedia documentation is available. It is being predicted that new technologies will lead to the creation of a virtual world, one that is nurtured by high-quality teaching.

Objectives Schizophrenia, particularly treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS), is one of the most disabling psychiatric disorders in terms of adverse effects on the quality of life (QOL) of patients. Subjective QOL has become a particularly crucial target that should be improved with treatment, since improved QOL may lead to recovery in patients with schizophrenia. However, there is little evidence on the efficacy of recommended psychosocial interventions on non-symptomatic measures such as QOL. In this regard, the treatment of schizophrenia can be enhanced if, in addition to the treatment of symptoms, therapeutic emphasis is placed on other areas of importance to patients. With advancements in technology, Virtual Reality assisted Therapy (VRT) allows voice hearers to enter in a direct dialogue with an avatar, fully animated by the therapist, who represents their most persecuting voice. This is in the aim to allow them to gain better control over their voices and to work on their self-esteem. Beyond symptomatology, the results of the pilot projects on this innovative therapy have shown significant results on QOL.

Shipibo shamanism (Peruvian Amazon) now has a particular appeal to a Western New Age clientele in search of hallucinogenic experiences, which, at first glance, would be the origin of some form of acculturation of the “traditional” institution. However, the analysis of the therapeutic cure reserved for Western tourists, as well as the mechanisms of translation and appropriation of modern components such as allopathic medicine, would seem to rather appear to emphasize a certain form of resilience, on the part of shipibo shamans, through the promotion of the vegetable kingdom within therapies. Indeed, the plants used would be able to “indigenize” the body of the Western patient for a curative purpose, but also to make the tourist undergo a form of socialization by plants. Such action would be a response to the upheavals that shipibo society is experiencing today in the context of globalization.

The concept of resilience has captured the attention of a growing number of investigators, care providers, administrators and clients of rehabilitation services, yet the literature on interventions to support the resilience of persons and their loved ones is quite sparse. This article will describe a community-based support program that is likely to support the resilience of persons with a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), the Personalized Community Integration Intervention (PCII). An implementation of PCII is currently underway, and it should help support the social participation of persons who have sustained a TBI. The program is based on four frames of reference : community integration based on the person's perception of their integration into the community, the ecosystemic model, the Handicap Production Process (HPP) model, and the goal-setting process. PCII adopts the view that interventions should be centered on the life plan of the person with a TBI.

The pandemic has made technological objects an indispensable aspect of our daily lives. The power they give us creates a certain hubris that awakens in us the feeling of infantile omnipotence. From this starting point, the author calls upon two authors who develop two completely opposite positions on the virtual and its virtues. The first author speaks about contemporary anthropological mutation and sees in the cyberculture a process of hominization that enlightens the development of human history. The second sees in today's communication society a serious threat to the living word.
