Un programme innovateur de promotion du bien-être psychologique pour des personnes âgées dépressives
More informationResearch on motivation has shown that the presence of personal goals is related to psychological well-being (PWB). A 14-week program designed to help participants realize meaningful personal projects was created to improve the PWB of depressed (BDI-II ≥ 9; M = 22,05) older adults (≥ 65 years). The levels of PWB, depression, and anxiety of the persons who took part in the program (n = 24) were compared to those of a control group (n = 18). Analyses showed that the program participants improved significantly on most indicators of well-being, including depression, indicating that a goal intervention program could be an innovative way to promote the mental health of depressive older adults. However, the improvement was observed only for serenity and meaning in life in the comparative analyses with the control group. Future studies should try to develop mental health promotion program that provide individuals with means to achieve an optimal state of functioning.

This exploratory study aims to document the portrayal of 12 children and their parents with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and to present the duration and intensity of the services offered in first line. Data from 12 professionals working in childhood and youth mental health teams suggest that children and their parents who seek counseling mostly show significant signs of distress and that the duration and intensity of services are considerable, particularly for older children who will be diagnosed with BPD and will have to be removed from their family environment.

This multiple case study aims at better understanding Youth Mental Health Care dedicated to refugee families. We collect qualitative data with 8 refugee families and their health care professionals. Our analysis reveals two tendencies in the health care dynamics. Well-coordinated care seemed to contribute to recreating the social bonds for refugee families, who suffered from collective violence. However, institutional violence may contribute to the original traumatic experience for refugee children. Results are discussed within the ethno psychiatry and social suffering conceptual frameworks.

There are many examples of the use of arts as a path to expression and transformation for indigenous people. However, there is a lack of information about the transformations that can take place throughout art and creativity from the youth's point of view. This study takes place in an ethnographic design and takes a phenomenological stance on a circus collective (Artcirq) that takes place within an Inuit community. It aims to better understand the experience of the young people who participate in the project. Our research data encompasses interviews with Inuit youth involved in Artcirq, fieldnotes as well as complementary interviews with a few persons of interest. Our analysis leads us to describe three central dimensions of the youth's experience of Artcirq as a space: 1) where they can discover and develop their internal resources; 2) where they can connect and belong; and 3) where "being Inuit" can be experienced as belonging and sharing. The potentially therapeutic implications of such community-based spaces dedicated to Inuit youth's well-being are brought up in the discussion.

The present article discusses some pitfalls in regards to the communication between legal decision makers and forensic psychologists, their respective roles and needs and the difficulty in translating psychological knowledge in the courtroom. Three psychological concepts will be discussed in greater detail: dangerousness, best interests of the child and parenting capacity. We underline the importance of specialized training in regard to the pitfalls discussed in this article and of an ethical use of the knowledge in psychology to assist the court.

Disclosure of sexual abuse is a critical step to engage legal procedures and protective measures even though many children are reluctant to disclose. This article presents a literature review on the disclosure process of child sexual abuse during forensic interviews with an overview of factors affecting disclosure. The methodological issues for future studies, which include the importance of a multidimensional conceptualization of disclosure and a multifactorial approach for the predictors of reluctance to disclose, are also discussed. Recommendations for the use of interview methods more likely to lead to exact and detailed testimonials are then presented, along with practical implications for clinicians.

This article presents the foundations of mentalization-based interventions and their relevance for young people in Youth Protection Centers. In this study, the training on mentalization-based interventions, designed by Domon-Archambault & Terradas (2015a), was conducted with childcare workers working with adolescent girls. Despite the modest changes observed in participants' mentalizing capacity, the training seems to allow the development of new intervention strategies and encourage a more explicit use of mentalization. Contributions, limitations, and future research for this type of intervention are discussed.

AbstractBipolar II (BP II) disorder is a common, recurrent, and disabling psychiatric illness. Individuals suffering from this disorder comprise a large segment of the outpatient mental health treatment population, and yet little is known about how best to manage it. Psychotherapy, although untested in this population, represents a potentially important treatment modality for individuals suffering from this disorder. Because BP II disorder is characterized by subsyndromal, non-psychotic, episodes of mania (hypomania), there are no clear contraindications to the use of psychotherapy as monotherapy in BP II disorder (in contrast to BP I disorder where the risk of mania makes medication the sine qua non of treatment). In addition, unlike medication, psychotherapy has the potential to help patients address the multiple psychosocial problems associated with this chronic illness. Thus, an effective psychotherapy for BP II disorder may provide an appealing alternative for patients, especially for those who prefer to avoid the risks and discomfort associated with current pharmacotherapeutic options. Interpersonal and social rhythm therapy (IPSRT), a treatment combining a behavioral approach to increasing the regularity of daily routines with interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), has demonstrated efficacy BP I disorder when in combination with medication. The current report gives brief overviews of BP II disorder and IPSRT, describes the process of adapting IPSRT for the treatment of BP II disorder, and then presents a series of vignettes based on our experience using IPSRT as monotherapy for the acute treatment of BP II depression. We argue that IPSRT warrants further systematic study to formally assess its efficacy as a treatment for BP II disorder.
