AbstractLacan finds in Luther an architect of modernity without which the Freudian invention would not have taken place. An articulation of Lutheran themes such as dereliction, predestination and the death of God, with topics such as law, desire and jouissance in Lacan's rereading of the Freudian myth of the murder of the Father, leads to explain and redeploy various facets of a theological heritage which psychoanalysis revisits in order to enlight some of its unsuspected aspects. In return, explicating Lacan's reference to Luther by going back to the Lutheran source as such opens the way to a dialogue between the theological and the psychoanalytic perspectives in order to propose a renewed understanding of faith, between belief and trust.

Analyzing the local-level implementation of participatory integration policies, this article asks how a stronger tie is woven between migrant women and French and Finnish societies. Careful observation of a mothers' café in Helsinki and a creative writing workshop in Paris, two distinct tools of participative integration policies, allows for discovering significant differences in the tie that is effectively produced between migrant women and their host society despite the policies' identical agendas. Unconvinced by the interpretative framework of ‘national models of integration', this research examines variation in the techniques of ‘attachment work' in the light of local-level explananda, namely the history of the institutions and the organization of the policy tools that are being compared. It advocates for the ethnographic method's unique contribution to international comparison, i.e. the possibility to develop multi-level analyses and partial but realist comparisons.

This article presents the process of doing life stories as practised in centres for assessment of adult competencies. In it, the author discusses the conditions that make the process possible. Working on one's life story entails the tension of a dialectic between self and other and between self and self. In the current context of the crisis in the workforce and loss of some of the basic reference points for the self, and always assuming the counsellor respects the limits of intervention, the practise of doing life stories restores speech to the subject. It allows the subject to assert her or his presence in the world, a presence that cannot be reduced to a product of the social and psychophysical forces that influence our existence.

Complicated grief remains a controversial topic. Although this concept is found in many cultures, few scientific studies address it from a transcultural perspective. This article, through the presentation of a clinical case and a literature review, describes the particularities of grief across cultures and in the context of immigration, offers a transcultural view of complicated grief and discusses limitations of international classifications to diagnose complications of grief across cultures. Culture and religion influence the mourning process, grief's clinical manifestations and possible complications. Thus, distinction between normal and complicated mourning in an intercultural context can become complex. The concept of complicated grief is discussed by emphasizing the importance of a culturally sensitive approach to enable an appropriate clinical assessment. We highlight the central question of the meaning given to death and the symptoms experienced in times of mourning. We then discuss the relevance of a critique of the risk of medicalization of bereavement and the limits of international classifications (DSM-5 and ICD-11). We argue that future nosographies would benefit from taking into account the characteristics of complicated grief in non-Western cultures, including specific determinants such as belief systems surrounding “bad death” and cultural interpretations of dreams about the deceased.

In Brazil, several municipalities are subcontracting to meet their needs for mental health staff. The case of auxiliary nurses in the network of the city of Campinas makes it possible to understand the impact of these transformations on precarious workers. The work and mobilization activity of 16 nursing assistants are described from a one-year ethnography. How to reconcile precariousness, the nursing relationship and the mobilization for the survival of public action in mental health? This question is enlightened by tracing the outlines of a «militant grammar» that emerge in the collective spaces of this network. This analysis paves the way for a deeper understanding of the social relationships of power in mental health network. The article concludes the importance of the perspective of nursing assistants in the political nature of their work for psychiatric reform.

Drawing on both an analysis of articles in Criminologie devoted to intervention in criminology and the recent implementation of a professional order of criminologists in Québec, this paper shares in-depth reflections on the potential contribution of critical criminology to more humanistic and reflective interventions. My objectives are threefold. First, I present the results of a thematic analysis of articles in Criminologie dealing with criminological intervention. Second, I provide a definition of critical criminology and defend the idea that this approach can make a fruitful contribution to the field of intervention by offering criminalized people the opportunity to benefit from supportive intervention. Third, I discuss the present opportunity for the professional association to endorse this approach to intervention by adopting a resolutely critical approach.

The high level of antisocial behavior among young offenders in general and those associated with street gangs in particular, which accounts for their involvement with the justice system, has led to a lack of attention to their victimization and its psychological aftereffects. In this article, 212 young offenders in the care of youth services or correctional services were assessed using quantitative questionnaires and a semi-structured qualitative interview. The questionnaire was used to identify the variables most involved in suicide risk, assessed by two tools (MAYSI-2 and MINI). The qualitative interviews highlighted that young offenders in care find themselves at a crossroads where their desire to leave the delinquent life style confronts the feeling that their extremely restricted future possibilities will make this impossible. The discussion combines the results of the quantitative and qualitative parts, using an abductive approach to propose an integrated understanding of this phenomena. Finally, some suggestions for intervention are offered.
