This article presents some of the principal results of a survey by questionnaire addressed to 954 holistic therapeutists across Quebec who publicly advertise their services (response rate: 37.9%). A socio-professional and socio-demographic portrait is briefly outlined. The various therapies and fields of therapy are presented, as well as the health problems which lead people to seek the services of these therapeutists. The therapeutists concerned practise throughout Quebec, but mainly in urban areas. The group is almost equally composed of men and women; they average 40.1 years of age and enjoy relatively modest incomes in relation to those of recognized healthcare professionals. Their areas of practice include energy-related therapies and those involving touch (massage) as well as so-called natural pharmacopoeias. The health problems the therapeutists report are identical to those disclosed in the Santé-Québec 1987 (health) survey for the Quebec population as a whole. The results concerning the therapies practised and the clientele's health problems are interpreted in terms of the search for a new approach to the body in western societies.

The phenomenon of an aging workforce continues to grow in importance. Beliefs about older workers (for example, their difficulty adapting to new ways of working) are still deeply rooted in society. Prejudice against this population gives rise to various situations of marginalization and exclusion, including difficulties in finding employment from a certain age and lack of access to continuing education. However, there is little evidence of how older workers perceive workplace innovation and their ability to adapt to changes in work. A study, based on a qualitative methodology, will be presented in this paper to capture the subjective relationship between aging workers and innovation at work. Its results make it possible to address the levers that can be considered by an organization concerned to take into account the aging of its workforce in an innovative context.

Many previous studies pointed out that children with intellectual disability (ID) present cognitive problems characterized by difficulties in encoding and processing the information as well as a deficit of the cognitive strategies used. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of cognitive-behavioral therapy and cognitive remediation on the cognitive abilities and behavior disorders of a child with ID. This study concerns Louis, a young teenager with a diagnosis of ID, and who, after two years of therapy support, initiated by cognitive remediation followed by cognitive therapy could improve his cognitive abilities associated with a decrease in his behavior disorders.

The objective of this research is to understand how the company can implement a socially responsible downsizing strategy in times of COVID-19. The aim of this study is to provide a detailed analysis of downsizing forms, emphasizing its distinctive character in southern countries. The results of our qualitative protocol, of an exploratory nature, carried out in a Tunisian hotel, revealed a mix of socially responsible measures. These high added-value practices include accountability, participation, local support, communication, professional training, union involvement and compliance with social legislation. The conclusions underlined that the implementation of a set of prerequisites and mechanisms before, during and after downsizing makes it possible to limit its psychological damage and its perverse effects. Also, they revealed that the deployment of benevolent managerial practices, fair and respectful of human dignity, as well as the adoption of an ethical guidelines have made downsizing socially tolerated. Clearly there is not a typical model or "one best way" when it comes to downsizing. The deployment of an approach rooted in local particularities is more relevant than reasoning in terms of universally applicable best practices.

The growing number of university students with disabilities in nursing sciences is a recent and complex phenomenon compounded by many challenges during their clinical internship. A multi-case study with two students and two clinical supervisors was conducted to make visible the clinical internship experience of students with disabilities and that of their clinical supervisors. Curran's Coaching Model was used to guide the interviews. Results show that timing of disclosure, authenticity in expressing the self, mutual understanding and support for safe care delivery all play a role in establishing and maintaining a trusting relationship conducive to learning during clinical internships. The results are discussed using Curran's Model and the Human Development Model - Disability Creation Process (HDM-DCP) to propose clinical modalities that promote equity for students with disabilities. We conclude that Curran's Coaching Model could apply to other students with learning disabilities or attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity, and probably also to those with mental health disorders.

La formation des psychoéducateurs et des psycho-éducatrices au Québec : rétrospective et prospective
More informationPsychoeducators constitute a group of more than 5,000 Quebec professionals who work with people having adjustment difficulties which manifest themselves on the behavioral level in their different living environments. Their expertise is based in particular on initial undergraduate and graduate university programs. With a retrospective and prospective approach, this article first traces psychoeducational training over the past sixty years, beginning with its origins in boarding schools for youth in difficulty to the development of doctoral programs in psychoeducation. The creation of the professional Order in 2000 is then presented as an important milestone in this history. With it came the management of programs allowing access to the license to practice the profession. Finally, we look at the challenges that this training will face over the next decade.

Two rarely connected disciplines, social work and martial arts, are paired for a project promoting peace in an elementary school. It is difficult to reach students with approaches based on verbal communications. To obtain positive results, it seems necessary to consider physical, psychological and social variables. This research is based on the evaluation of a project. It starts from the assumption that beyond the objectives of researchers and practitioners, the opinions of many users are still important indicators for defining the results of an intervention. This angle of analysis has shown that it can be risky to rely on only one group to judge a project. No negative effects, and several positive effects, are highlighted on behavioural, cognitive and social levels. Attitudes and behaviours favourable to socialization are mentioned: self-control, self-confidence, concentration, well-being, moral development, perseverance, as well as a sense of belonging. These indicators seem to be elements that promote the development of a peaceful culture. In conclusion, limits are identified, reminding us that to prevent violence in schools, we also need to prevent institutional violence if we want to escape this vicious circle.

In a clinical orientation and in reference to psychoanalysis, this study deals with the experiences of violence in a population of cycle III students (8-12 years old) in elementary schools located in low-income neighbourhoods, as well as their relationship with violence and how they face it. The article presents the results of French research done in the priority education zone (PEZ). It allows us to highlight the state of different social relationships (educational, political, religious, etc.), and deduct the stakes for our contemporary society, using the lesson that emerges to suggest an imperative modification of educational practices. On this last point, it is useful to note that only a coherent series of sensitizing and preventive measures taken to deal with different forms of violence, and applied to the whole educational process, could allow all children to engage in becoming ethical and responsible citizens.
