AbstractThis empirical research project aimed to understand the effects of the refugee protection system's federal reforms on asylum seekers' psychological well-being, particularly through help services provided to this population. Interviewed stakeholders have identified several ways in which these reforms might accentuate asylum seekers' post-migration difficulties, including the lack of psychosocial support resources and the anti-refugee discourse amongst the population. These results show the need to promote awareness of the reality of asylum seekers as well as to foster consideration for their rights within the host society.

SummaryThis article offers a sociological interpretation of the elements involved in the construction of autobiographies by dance artists. More particularly, it questions the role and the place of the body in the construction of self-history which gives an account of a past existence through dance. The irregularities of the latter tend to disappear due to the natural flow of autobiographical writing whereas descriptions of dance experiences, which structured the artist's career, reveal a series of disconnected moments all contributing to the development of the self, all coming together in the history told by the movements of the dancing body.

AbstractReynald Rivard was a pioneer in special education in Quebec. Three conclusions can be drawn from his professional biography. Without questioning the contribution made by the network developed around Boscoville to the emergence of special education, there was a broader reflection on the field and the training of professionals in the mid-20th century, one which drew on diverse, and sometimes conflicting, theoretical and practical currents. Furthermore, the article describes the essential elements of the marginalization of religious orders after 1950 : their inability to support their professional training with recognized diplomas, as well as the refusal of church authorities and government to help them access the training necessary to gain professional accreditation. Finally, looking beyond the relationship between Church and State, an examination of the power relationships within each of these institutions helps to reveal the fundamental complexity of the process which led to the disappearance of orphanages.

Busking can produce positive atmospheres in public spaces through diverse social relations that, in addition to the music itself, can contribute to a sense of wellbeing among the urban populace. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the value of music and live performances in terms of their positive impact on well-being. This article analyzes the situation of buskers during the pandemic and gives insight into their subjective realities. Using the example of New York musician Colin Huggins, known as “the piano man of Washington Square Park,” the author highlights buskers’ dependence on governmental and societal support to sustain both well-being and music cultures in public spaces.

The environmental crisis calls for diversity education that extends beyond humanity and involves all living beings around the question of living together on Earth. The purpose of this article is to develop an educational proposal based on ecological living together that opens the reflection on welcoming epistemological diversity to develop a finer understanding of our relation to the world. A general didactic of Bildung centered on the Subject in his relationship to the world is proposed. This place-based learning approach mobilizes a dimension of our humanity – spirituality – often dismissed though central to us all. Spirituality would then become part of diversity education that considers diversity amongst all living beings, as well epistemology diversity by integrating indigenous epistemologies.
