This article addresses the clinical challenges family therapists face in child protection services. These challenges arise in various ways. The first challenge is the legal context that confers a coercive and intrusive character unfavourable to commitment in the therapeutic process; the second challenge consists in succeeding in reconciling the therapeutic alliance with the legal mandate of control and surveillance. The third is taking into account the priority economic needs of families. The author presents a clinical situation that illustrates the dilemma and impasses these challenges pose. In conclusion, approaches favoured by family therapists specialized in child protection are defined.

This introduction to pragmatism in psychiatry deals with Peirce's pragmatism, that he defines as the “ logic of abduction ”, and with psychiatry in continuous construction, also known as “ institutional psychotherapy ”. From the concrete problems of the clinique La Borde, of which he is the Director, the author suggests different conceptions to help approach pragmatism, or “ pragmaticism ”, namely the “ hinterland ”, the “ decision ”, the “ justification ”.

Numerous clinicians practicing systemic psychotherapy have recognized the relevance of co-therapy, an intervention model involving at least two clinicians. Intercultural psychology and ethnopsychiatry have been inspired by the principles of co-therapy and have adapted it to the intercultural context. Our objective is to illustrate how co-therapy works in intercultural psychology, as it has been developed by the Specialized Psychological Services for Immigrants and for Refugees (SAPSIR). This intervention model facilitates the working through processes of mourning and of identity, important issues with migrant individuals. Finally, this practice cannot be reduced to the mere application of techniques including some cultural elements; it implies a special way of being in relationship with others, with oneself and with one's knowledge.

Quebec's population is aging, a situation that will only increase over the next decades. While in 2017 approximately 1 in 5 people belonged to the 65 and over the age group, this will be the case for a quarter of Quebecers in 2031, and almost a third of them by 2061.The trajectories of aging are unique and depend on various factors, such as the vulnerabilities and strengths of the individual and his interaction with his loved ones and society.Old age is often accompanied by a series of losses. This creates constraints that hamper autonomy. Disease can be very confronting for the aging individual with reduced capacities and become a reminder of an inevitable death approaching. It can sometimes become a certain form of trauma. This process challenges caregivers to think about a therapeutic projects promoting resilience, a concept that goes beyond adjustment, and that suggests potential for development and psychological rebound. At Albert-Prévost Mental Health Hospital, geriatric psychiatry patients often have a triple vulnerability: cognitive impairment, physical disability and chronic or de novo psychiatric illness. Their needs are therefore multiple and complex. This is how, in 2017, we developed a positive psychiatry approach in our geriatric psychiatry service. Our goal is to promote the well-being and resilience of our patients through different levels of positive intervention. The strategies can then range from simple positive orientation during the psychiatric interview to positive psychotherapy, including psychoeducation, bibliotherapy and the prescription of certain positive psychology intervention.

The goal of this article is to illustrate psychoanalytical concepts of subjective appropriation, symbolization, primary guilt and psychotherapeutic interplay. Those concepts found their support from authors such as Freud, Winnicott and Roussillon. First, I will present a briefly review those concepts and then illustrate them with a clinical case. The patient has been in psychotherapy with the author in a psychiatry outpatient clinic. Modifications have been made to preserve the anonymity of the patient.

The process of puberty opens up significant changes in the construction of identity, on the background of the changes of the narcissistic-object during adolescence. Sexual violence in adolescence can be considered as a marker of a failure of puberty rearrangements, in the context of the traumatic re-actualization of an injured narcissism. Following the presentation of theoretical perspectives on identity in its relation to narcissism, the presentation of the psychoanalytic treatment of teenagers allows for a clarification of the stakes at play in a suffering identity.

In Québec, one in three people is at risk of being affected by a mental health problem during his lifetime. Women are twice as likely as men to suffer from mild mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Poverty, violence and sexual abuse, difficulty to have access to adequate and affordable housing and poor working conditions are among the risk for women of being affected by a mental health problem.

This article deals with professional/user interactions in French psychiatry and offers to distinguish four "therapeutic styles" according to their use of tools to sustain these interactions: 1°) absence of tools and informality of interactions; 2°) use of rituals to maintain contact with the patient, no formalization; 3°) use of therapeutic methods; 4°) use of tools: a) to ease expression and interactions, b) such as protocols or c) standardized. We propose to distinguish between formalization and standardization of interactions and conclude on the role of the feeling of powerlessness of caregivers in the conflict between therapeutic approaches in psychiatry.
