In traditional societies, the body serves as identification. Anthropology has shown that the body marked by scarifications and/or tattoos carries the system of signs of a social group which allows an individual to identify another at first sight.Psychoanalysis provides access to the discourse that the young person cannot express verbally but that he/she writes on his/her skin through scarifications and tattoos. The story of several teenage girls, through their psychotherapeutic journey, shows how they went from the scarifications they inflicted on themselves in secret, out of their pain of living, to a tattoo chosen and assumed and for all to see.The tattoo, an ornamental element of body marking, served in helping them to sublimate their destructive impulses.

Objectives More than half of suicidal adolescents, a large proportion of which manifest borderline personality disorder (BPD), drop out from treatment. The consequences of their premature termination are cause for concern given the recurrence of their suicidal attempts and that they present elevated risk for major mental disorders during adulthood. The study sought to gain a broader appreciation of processes involved in the treatment dropout among adolescents with BPD.Method A constructivist grounded theory was chosen using a multiple-case research design. Twelve cases were examined. Three groups of informants were recruited (adolescents, parents, and therapists involved in the treatment) and 34 interviews were conducted to document the cases. Theoretical sampling and the different stages of analysis specific to grounded theory were performed according to the iterative process of constant comparative analysis. Results Various dropout vulnerabilities specific to adolescents with BPD and their parents, including psychological characteristics, help-seeking context and perception of mental illness and mental healthcare were identified. Care-setting response including management of accessibility problems, adaptation of services to needs of adolescents with BPD, preparation for treatment, and consideration for the health professional's disposition to treat were also found to be determinant to their engagement to treatment. The processes of disengagement from treatment have also been specified. Negative perceptions regarding treatment, clinicians and receiving treatment have been shown to generate emotional activation. The aforementioned lead to counterproductive attitudes that evolve into outright disengagement behaviours. In this context, responses from the care-setting, such as an insufficient regulation of the engagement, therapeutic faux pas and paradoxical demands, precipitate premature treatment termination. Finally, the processes involved in the abandonment of treatment were formalized in the Model of engagement and treatment dropout for adolescent with BPD. This theoretical model highlights two key milestones that may lead to treatment completion or to dropout during care. It illustrates that distinct processes characterize the premature and late dropouts of adolescents with BPD. The early terminations result from the failure of the care-setting to take advantage of the impetus for help seeking to engage the adolescent and the parent at that first critical moment in the care trajectory. On the other hand, the late dropouts translate failures of the care-setting to adopt corrective measures to maintain the patient in treatment at a second critical moment indicated by their disengagement. Conclusion The termination rate of those adolescent treatments could be diminished by a system of care-setting that recognizes the inherent difficulties related to the treatment of those specific patients, is proactive to solve problems of disengagement, integrates support systems for clinicians and promotes a reflexive practice.

This text presents an epistolary exchange between two psychotherapists working in a psychoanalytic group. Their dialogue provides an insight into the transference-counter-transference processes at play, and highlights the way they think about the group through the associative work that takes place between sessions. This is a foresight approach, since this exchange begins at a crucial moment in the group process, without any knowledge of future events, and continues over the course of several months. The words of one of the participants (“Can I start a subject?”) constitute the starting point and the common thread used to reflect on the work of subjectivation allowed by the group setting. By exploring some significant moments in the life of the group, including the formation of a couple, this text highlights the complexity of group phenomena within psychoanalytic group psychotherapy.

From the psychic trace to the graphic trace. Do the drawings of children, who are confronted with massive death anxieties, bring traces of this anxiety into the drawings made in a psychotherapeutic setting? We will propose four clinical situations of children consulting for problems, certainly different, but each presenting a child confronted with dread, traumatic anxiety, a meeting with the reality of death. These situations allow us to observe the drawing's use in child psychotherapy (transitional phenomenon, setting in graphic movement related to the psychic movements that animate the child, projection of the perceptible anxiety in the outline) and to suggest a grid for identifying anxiety markers in children's drawings.

Psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy represents a promising addition to palliative care interventions, potentially improving quality of life by addressing existential distress. Despite its safety and effectiveness, this therapy remains limited in Canada, underscoring the need for improved access to ease suffering from life-threatening illnesses. However, important questions remain regarding how to integrate psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy into existing healthcare frameworks, navigate regulatory challenges, and ensure equitable access for all patients. These unanswered questions highlight the complexity of expanding access and the need for thoughtful, informed approaches to its implementation. To address this, the P3A team (Psilocybin at End of Life: Audacity, Acceptability, Access) held a forum on March 22, 2024, in Quebec, Canada, to explore actionable steps for the responsible use and equitable access to psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy. A total of 57 participants with knowledge in palliative care, including professional and patient associations, patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers, attended the event, which featured presentations, a panel discussion, and small-group workshops. This report provides sixteen recommendations across six previously identified key topics: 1) Patient Eligibility and Equity, 2) Regulatory Framework and Respect for Autonomy, 3) Logistical and Organizational Aspects, 4) Professional Education and Training, 5) Public Awareness and Information, and 6) Research. The elements and recommendations discussed in this paper could offer valuable insights for expanding access to psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy in other jurisdictions, particularly in global contexts where similar barriers to care exist.
